I had a wee peek at the Valencis website, and from my limited spanish (school was a few years back) I think it mentions Mista signing a new deal with them..

Valencia coach Claudio Ranieri has confirmed Liverpool are interested in striker Mista, but insisted a number of clubs want him.

Mista is refusing to sign a new contract at Mestalla and looks set to leave the club either in January or at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old scored 19 goals last season, but he is still not guaranteed a first team place with Italians Marco Di Vaio and Bernardo Corradi both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Mista's current deal is due to expire next summer and Valencia are now considering their options - with a sale in January the most likely avenue for the Che.

Ranieri wants to keep Mista, but he knows he is powerless unless the player signs a new deal - which is highly unlikely.

The former Chelsea boss admitted he knows of the interest from Rafa Benitez's Liverpool.

"I am aware Liverpool have been linked with my striker Mista," said Ranieri.

"But a number of clubs from around Europe are looking at him."

Mista reached an agreement with VFC that satisified both him and the club. He extended his contract to the year 2010.

in mistas contartc there is a buy out clause, so rafa wants him he will have to pay a bit more than when he was almost out of contract with valencia, he could have signed to insure both parties got the best out of the deal you never know, even though i wish we sign someone else as i dont really see mista as the ideal partner if you want a pocher im sure i could do jus a good job scoring goals from 6 yards lol we need a morientes at the very least and im sure rafa will pull the stops out in january and sign someone who will fit the bill perfectly just looka t his signing already they all look comfortable and even 1 or 2 look to be class

Shame this. He looked really tasty in the clips and on a free would have been a coup. I've always felt though that Rafa may end up buying someone we've never heard of. Bases on his record sofar, good luck to him. Give him the cash and let him do the deal.
