Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could return to La Liga for further reinforcements in the summer, with Gabriel Milito and Mohamed Sissoko on his wanted list.

Real Zaragoza defender Milito (pictured) and Valencia midfielder Sissoko are reportedly being eyed by Benitez as he looks to build on a fluctuating first season in England.

A lacklustre Premiership campaign has not prevented The Reds from reaching the UEFA Champions League final and success against Milan later this month will strengthen Benitez's hand in the transfer market.

A defender appears to be a priority for the Spanish tactician and Argentine centre half Milito has now emerged as a prime target.

Manchester United and Barcelona have both been linked with Milito in recent weeks but Liverpool are now rumoured to have joined the chase.

Milito recently stressed he is happy to stay with Zaragoza while the club have also stated they do not plan to sell the imposing stopper in the summer.

But reports claim that Benitez is ready to test Zaragoza's resolve by launching a £6 million bid during the close season.

The highly-rated Sissoko is also being eyed by Benitez, according to the African youngster's agent Arturo Canales.

Sissoko was signed for the Che by Benitez in 2003 and he has been linked with a switch to Anfield as part of a swap deal involving Milan Baros.

Canales said: "Benitez has been following him throughout the season.

"I am waiting for an answer from Liverpool although I know that nothing will happen until after the Champions League final."

Liverpool have also been linked with Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt, with suggestions that goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek will be offered as a makeweight in the deal.

With The Reds closing on Villarreal shot-stopper Jose Reina, Dudek could find himself shunted out of Anfield, with Chris Kirkland and Scott Carson also options in goal for Benitez.
