Did you know that during Downings first season we hit the woodwork 7 times from one of his crosses or passes ( plus he himself hit the woodwork 3 times ).
What it also shows and again is evident last season especially is that wingers are highly dependant on the striker finishing the chances the winger or mid creates - last season our strikers couldn't hit a barn door from 2 yards ( they could hit the woodwork - 18 times ) which then ultimately looks bad on the guys creating the chances.
One minute you are stating that Downing didnt have an assist or goal to his name last season ( actually he did - but that isn't the point ) - then claim that stats are nonsense and not worth the paper they are written on ? Confused ?
One interesting stat though is that when Downing was introduced on a regular basis from Jan and integrated within a front three we actually improved measurably. I think that's more a fact though as opposed to a stat.
The final fact is that I can manage to post that reply without one single slur against you - the other fact is you once again show you're incapable of doing the same.
Yes well done you didn't question my ability to read on this occasion did you !! I think just for the record questioning somebody's ability to read is a SLUR ON THEIR CHARACTER. If I was to suggest that you were a self righteous sanctimonious pompous ***** then that would be a SLUR. Simply stating that you are boring and tedious is stating actual facts.
CLEAR CHANCES is a spurious and subjective stat. Yes I accept that the woodwork was hit from some of Downing''s crosses but I certainly do not accept that they were clear chances. I seem to remember you defending Carroll during the 2011/2012 season and blaming the quality of of supply for his failings. Now you are suggesting Downing was actually doing a decent job. Yes I'm confused. Goals and assists are meaningful stats because they cannot be argued with. I did not say that all stats were nonsense did I ffs.
The main reason for our change of fortune from January this year was due largely to Sturridge and Cortinho and certainly not Downing who improved but was still substituted on many occasions.
