We will see how he does then.

I have my fears about him and have posted them as have others.

I'm sure you have felt the same about other signings in the past

yes Benny I do have reservations about certain incoming players, I just don't repeat them like a broken down record because I have an agenda against the manager.

That's the difference.

@DanKennett: #LFC clear chances created last 2 seasons: Suarez 23, Downing 18, Enrique 13, Coutinho 9, Gerrard 9, Henderson 9, Johnson 8

Downing won't be sold for 2 reasons -

1) He did enough in the 2nd half of last season to suggest he is an asset - stats confirm this
2) We would make a massive loss on him if he was to be moved on

If Aspas gets the nod ahead of Downing then Downing would be a good option to have on the bench tbh. Our bench is thin at times and he would be a cert for cup games and the such. So there is room for both of them in the squad.

Amazing that Coutinho has racked up half the assists in a quarter of the time compared to an experienced international.

i find it more amazing that he has racked up the same amount as the greatest player in this clubs history in a quarter of the time.

The figures look like complete nonsense. I desperately need to see a montage of the 23 clear chances that Downing has created and in what matches ? Gerrard 9 Downing 23 - was this garbage put out by Downing's agent? It just shows you can do anything with stats.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

I kinda object to having 35 and 20 million pound benchwarmers. 20 million pound players play, 7 million pound young players warm the bench. I'd make that a rule myself, then everyone knows where they stand.

I suppose it proves that you don't read things correctly

According to the premier league website Gerrard assisted 13 goals last season alone so how can he have only created 9 clear chances over the last 2 season? Even on the face of it those stats look wildly wrong.

personally i`d keep him, if we were targeting top class prospects like luis muriel then i`d be the first to say sell him, but our transfer philosophy seems to revolve around trying to find relatively cheap uncut diamonds in the hope we can polish them up. in other words we are throwing the dice.
with suarez, reina, skrtel (and probably coates) looking like they are on their way out we have got to be careful that we dont regress and go backwards, if you have too many changes all at once you get that situation were players need half a season to get to know each others games.
the best sides have a policy of evolution not revolution.

depends what their interpretation of a `clear chance` is i suppose. i`ve never been a big fan of assist stats anyway, all an assist basically means is that you were the last player to touch the ball before the goalscorer.

Lads, all these threads end up going round in circles. Is Downing a Champions League quality footballer? No. So get rid.
