You talk about Evertonians having an obsession with us, there's an awful lot of Liverpool supporters who seem to have an obsession with Manchester United.

It depends if the referee saw it or not doesn't it? He probably didn't give the penalty because he didn't have a clear view of the incident. Also, I highly doubt any referee would give a known diver the benefit of the doubt in that situation too, not that he should anyway because if the referee isn't 100% sure about the incident, he shouldn't give the decision.

if a referee is in charge of a match then he has to enter that with an open mind and no bias towards anyone or anything.if he doesnt then he shouldnt be a referee and certainly not at that level.
the problem isnt with our player but the disgraceful differences between officiating that we see on a game by game basis and week by week.

You and others on here are only vociferous about this issue because Pulis and the media blew it up, you've fallen for it hook line and sinker. Diving is an almost integral part of the game today, players are no where near castigated for it like Suarez has been, but where does British media morals lie, certainly they're not concerned about stamping on a player, they're more intent on crucifying a Liverpool player because he simulated. They caused such a furore over this that like minded Liverpool fans like you have swallowed the bait and jumped on the latest witchunt.

Here;s a quote for LFC2007, yourself and any other media-wannabe-mogul-bandwagon-jumping-swallowing-monkey-sensationalists:

er i dont go onto man united message boards winding people up unlike some posters who come here to wind us up.
i only mentioned united because someone said luis`s reputation will stop us getting pens, i just said why didnt ronaldo`s reputation stop united getting pens? it`s a reasonable question to ask

Yes it is a very good question to ask and it's a question I am unable to answer.

It's more than likely that the referee didn't see what Barnett did to Suarez, if he doesn't see the foul, he cannot award the penalty. I do agree that if a referee shows bias he shouldn't be a referee, but referees are only human and are capable of mistakes which is why I'm such a staunch supporter of introducing video replays into football.

Don't patronise me, Kenny Kan! My annoyance of Suarez goes far deeper than Tony Pulis's post-match interview. I was annoyed at Luis long before this latest incident with him [Luis] happened. Some may well call it a witch-hunt, but Luis doesn't help himself with his behaviour and to be honest the fella has always been trouble. He was trouble at Ajax and he was troublesome in his youth, he allegedly punched a referee aged 14. Every year, every season there's controversy surrounding this fella. He should take heed for Roger Hunt's advice, keep his head down and work hard. He just gives people ammunition to use against him.

Another question is why isn't Gerrard branded a diver when he does it far more often than Luis. the only conclusion I can reach is widespread xenophobia against foriegn players amongst the FA and footballing public at large.
In my opinion Suarez does not dive any more than others but at the same time it does him no favours at all when he does now dive, like in the Stoke game, becuase the spotlight is so firmly on him. He has to be dignified and whiter than white (pun very much intended) to try and regain some respect from the football "elite", he has to be prepare dto have seven shades of Sh*t kicked out of him each and every match and not whinge or complain at all. Gradually over time referees, and the publics, opinions of him will change.

You raise good points Heimdall, there is definitely a major set of double standards in the English game. The likes of Steven Gerrard can assualt someone and escape any punishment for it. You have Wayne Rooney who kicks another players twice and gets a reduced ban at a disciplinary hearing. If Suarez was in a bar and punched someone the way Gerrard did, you can bet your life saving that he'd have gone to prison for that. It seems some managers and some football (British) are above and beyond the law, particularly International players like Gerrard, Rooney and Terry who have as bad if not worse track records than Luis, but who some how do not have the type of stigma attached to them that the likes of Barton and Suarez have, for instance.

Half the problem with football rules and regulations is there is no set-in-stone rules, it's all based on perception and interpretation.

So some referees encourage diving while others dont?

I think football in general encourages diving. Go back to the West Brom match in the Capital One cup where Yesil stayed on his feet when he was fouled. I bet you my life saving that if he fell over he would have been awarded with an advantage. This is why I want set-in-stone rules and video technology introduced for decisions such as "did the ball go over the line?", "did a player dive?" etc.

Helmdall: Please give me five examples of Gerrard diving during the last 12 months. Not a lot to ask if there is any validity to your accusation. Gerrard used to tackle and dive in a somewhat overly enthusiastic manner but I do not believe that to be the case any longer.Perhaps I'm wrong.The memory is not what it used to be.

I can't do that but we all know Stevie has a tendency to fall over a bit easy and becuase of his "solid" reputation almost always gets the freekicks in his favour.
