Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

At least the truth is finally out there. Hopefully justice will be done and the families will finally be able to feel a sense of closure after over two decades of disgusting lies and cover up from those meant to protect and serve.

I know this is an idle comment, but, I still cannot, considering everything, believe the extent the yorkshire police went to, to put the entire blame on the Liverpool supporters.

Like everyone else here my heart has always been with the 96 and the families.

I know corruption exists, but I never could believe that any human being could go to such lengths as to take blood samples from the dead to search for alcohol, or indeed to search a database to try find criminal records to cover their own backside.

I truly despair.

Its been an incredibly emotional day for everyone affected by the Hillsborough tragedy as the 2 and half year inquiries findings have been made public.

Families of the 96, survivors, LFC players, former managers, politicians, dignitaries, friends, fans and people everywhere have read with astonishment and disgust at the depths of the cover up and the lengths the authorities went to not just abdicate all responsibility but in doing so slur the victims, the survivors and families and deflect all blame and culpability towards the very people they were supposed to protect and serve.

Its a monumnetal and extensive scandal on an epic scale and it beggars belief that this can happen in a civilised and democratic society.

They say evil prospers when good people do nothing so we are thankful to many many good people for their herculian efforts in seeking out the truth despite the pain and anguish this must have brought.

I was at the Hillsborough vigil toninght and it was emotional, beautiful and sad at the same time. To see for myself the dignity and grace that the families of the 96 conduct themselves was humbling and inspiring. Within that dignity is a steely determination to complete their 23 year battle and finally see justice done and people be accountable for their failings and subsequent actions on and after April 15th 1989.

If i was in the shoes of the 96, there is no way I could show that resolve that they have shown.

Its all wrong, everything about this is wrong. And it has took 23 years to simply show the truth.

I find that quite mind boggling and that inquiry could determine all of this and yet its taken 23 years for to come to light beggars belief

Hillsborough: prosecutions likely over 'the biggest cover-up in history'

• Police carried out criminal record checks on deceased to 'impugn reputations'
• Senior officers privately discussed 'animalistic behaviour' of 'drunken marauding fans'
• New evidence suggests dozens survived past 3.15pm inquest cut-off point
• 116 of the 164 South Yorkshire Police statements were doctored
• South Yorkshire Ambulance Service evidence was misleading
• No evidence to support police account that fans were drunk and aggressive
• Margaret Thatcher expressed concern in Cabinet that the first inquiry into the disaster contained 'devastating criticism of the police'
• Weight placed on blood alcohol levels among the dead was 'inappropriate'
• The Sun's allegations originated from police and a local MP

I'm a bit numb really. It makes you realise how BIG the scam was. So many coppers, Sheffield local government officials, hospitals, SWFC, bureaucrats who wrote the reports, the media including the BBC/ITV who never contested the evidence...... they all colluded not only to distort facts, but hide the truth and ensure in many cases it was taken to their own graves.  The original crime was committed in 1989, was surpressed in the resulting enquiry then kept unchallenged for 23 years. So many people have left their dirty mark on this case. Prime ministers, home secretaries, chiefs of police, internal emergency services reports, hospital reports on lessons learned etc..... The only tangible improvement we got out of it was all seater stadiums.

What a two faced, sad, sad world we live in.

God bless the 96, their families and all those who kept the faith and fought 23 years for justice. Rest in peace my friends.

SSN does a quick 5 minute run through of the yesterday's events.  Fox Soccer Channel did 15 of their 1 hour show on the developments.  Showing more interviews with HJC people, an interview with John Barnes, amongst other things.  If I knew how to add videos onto youtube I'd do it because FSC did a pretty good job, a better job than I expected of them.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

The police are the biggest gang going.

Once the idea of a cover up was in place your normal bobby would be forced to tow the line. I highly doubt they ever saw the doctored reports.

This is just the start, there has to be criminal charges brought against those responsible for this cover up and of course the original coroner Popper , how these people (those still alive) could have lived with themselves over the past 23 years I really cannot fathom. I cried reading the reports, the senseless waste and the magnitude of the incompetance, then the anger at the extent of the cover up.

The last couple of days have been emotional, YNWA 96 :buttrock

The FA release their statement

FA Statement: Hillsborough Report
THURSDAY, 13 SEPTEMBER 2012

The Football Association commends the work of the Hillsborough Independent Panel.
"Having thoroughly reviewed yesterday's report in full, The Football Association would like to commend the Hillsborough Independent Panel for their exhaustive and professional work.

"It is also important that The FA recognises the tireless commitment shown by so many, particularly the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

"We welcome the publication of the report and the subsequent comments of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

"The FA reiterates its deep and ongoing sadness at the dreadful events that unfolded on 15 April 1989.

"The organisation's thoughts at this time remains with the families of all those who lost their lives in such terrible circumstances, as well as everyone connected with the City of Liverpool.

"For 23 years the families have suffered unbearable pain, and we have profound sympathy for this.

"The FA has cooperated fully with the Panel throughout this process and has released all documentation in line with their request.

"The FA and English football has changed immeasurably, and has learnt many lessons in the last 23 years. Through advancements in safety and investment in facilities English football is now a much safer, more welcoming environment for supporters.”
