JONJO SHELVEY - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I have to say I was surprised when he signed a new contract, as his performances in a red shirt have not exactly blown me away.

Did well to score for the U21's, but he hasn't come close to scoring much in a red shirt?

I actually thought he would go out on loan, rather than Jay Spearing, who I reckon is a better squad player than Shelvey.

But Jonjo is a better first team player. He came on against Arsenal and there was more urgency about our play.

Ive been realy impressed with Jonjo so far this season, it looks like all the times out on load have really paid off.  People forget he is only 20 yes old and is starting to look like a real good box to box midfielder who is only going to get better.

I really hoe we see more of him this year and if he gets a goal soon it will only make him more confident.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I think his game is very similar to Stevie's... sometimes when I see them play together, it's like looking at Stevie and Stevie's mini-me ...

I like Shelvey. At 20 years old he is a prospect and I can see him growing into a good LFC player. It's far to early to say much more than that at this stage as we haven't seen enough of him to really judge him.

Had my reservations about Shelvey but he has impressed the last couple of
games, looks like he belongs at last.

Jonjo has always beleived he belongs (not short on confidence clearly) but
couldnt bring a performance to match the swagger, but we are seeing signs
of it now.

how do you think spearing is more valuable to the team than shelvey?
just curious as most would not agree with you and fwiw neither does the manager.

i think rodgers realises he has a player in jonjo and now is the perfect time to be integrating him into the side.he plays the system well and has a shot on him so he will score goals.
hopefully he will step into the boots of gerrard over the next season or 2.

Jonjo Shelvey has really impressed me so far this season and he was also excellent in pre-season games. I think he is a big big talent and will be a first team regular by the end of the season. To me he has shown the ability to get hold of the ball and dictate play and I think his positive attacking attitude will greatly benefit the team. For such a forward thinking player he is very neat and careful in possession and takes up some very clever positions.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays for the full England side before to long and I think he is a decent outside bet for young player of the year although he does face tough competition from one or two team mates!

The future is bright and Jonjo will be one of our stars….

your wrong, obviously.

Spearing is a squad player and I cannot see him ever being more than that.

Whereas Shelvey has shown enough to most of us to show he is a star in the making.

That is just your opinion, only.

I am only saying I don't rate him in a red shirt, having seen him plenty as a sub over the past couple of seasons.

As for mr. Rodgers rating him, we will see how well the manager does in the coming weeks, wont we after a very poor start.

Was never a fan but am warming to him after some good showings this season. Really like the way that he has the ability to up the tempo when he comes on. Has a decent shot on him. Much better player than Spearing - who is a Championship player at best.

Actuelly it's not only his opinion....Jonjo and Spearing aren't playing the same position but talent wise Jonjo is way ahead of little Jay....If i had to rate our MF so far ,After Allen ,Jonjo was our 2nd most impressive MF ,before Stevie and the rest of course...
