I identified him as special way back when we signed him. His stature, skill and talent is not of a typical 19 year old midfielder. As i have said before there is something about him that is Gerrard-esque. For me it is him we should be looking to develop to replace Gerrard long term.

I think it was to do with the charity they had on the shirts last night
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

he has got a bit about him, when most lads of 19/20 get loaned out to the lower divisions they do well to just compete at that level, in the lower divisions a lot less football gets played and a lot more tackles fly in but shelvey excelled at blackpool and it`s not that often that happens.
i dont think he`s ready to be a starter in a side challenging for the title at the moment but that doesnt mean he wont be in the future.
i think over the next couple of seasons he should be getting 20 minutes here and there and the odd start here and there, i think sterling should get the same amount of games / gametime as well.

Jonjo Shelvey has today signed a new contract at Liverpool Football Club.

The 20-year-old put pen to paper on the long-term deal at Melwood on Tuesday morning to commit his future to the Reds.

Shelvey moved to Anfield from Charlton in May 2010 and has made 37 appearances for the first team.

The midfielder spent time on loan at Blackpool last season before returning to Liverpool to score two goals in 16 run outs, including a stunning long-range strike against Chelsea in the final home game of the campaign.

Rodgers clearly likes him, great decision IMO.

I'm surprised we didnt sell or loan him out this season. I wonder who we are getting rid of if shelvey stays.

JONJO = TOP QUALITY MIDFIELDER - just needs more minutes on the pitch alongside 'the master' and we'll ALL be singing his name from the KOP

I like the lad, he is technically a very good player.

I watched him at half time last season when he was sub - i know that's not when you judge a player by the way  :D

But his technique pinging passes from one side of the pitch on the half volley and from dead balls was class.

The only thing that so far for me that lets him down is his decision making in good positions.

That can be what sets decent players apart from top players.

Lets see how he develops, but its a positive that we have tied him down for me.

He scored and created another goal in the England Under-21 match last night if I'm not mistaken. Well done!

With the injury of Lucas and the uncertainty going on at the club now is the perfect time for Shelvey to step up to the plate and show what hes capable of.
He does seem to recognise this and I wish the lad well.
