Has our luck just changed? - It needs to...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Tonight we had a bit of luck with a couple of decisions. Let's be honest we have had NO luck at all this season.

Is this the change we have needed... I bloody hope so!

Ps were going to Wembley

Theres no doubt we are historically lucky.. and long may it continue.

From Hansen's unseen handball vs the Bitters in the 84 league cup final, to similar with Henchoz against Arsenal in 2001 fa cup final, to the near perfect penalty shoot out record (something like 12 wins in 14.. and the 2 we didn't win were in early rounds) which won us 2 European Cup finals, a League Cup final, and an FA Cup final, to the Garcia ghost goal (and Gudjohnsen missing an open goal in the 6th minute of injury time), to Alaves' Geli scoring a golden goal own goal in the 2001 uefa cup final, to Shevchenko shooting from 2 yards out in the 117th minute and somehow hitting Dudeks hand in the 2005 cl final, to Pepe tipping the 119th minute west ham shot onto the inside of the post (which harewood from the rebound proceeded to miss) in the 2006 fa cup final. Then theres the league games against the bitters.. dont mention Clive Thomas (denied a goal in the 78 fa cup semi), Mark Clatterburg (denied a last minute pen), Graham Poll (denied a last second goal which he apologised for).. nor the fella this season who sent off Rodwell which was overturned.

Tonight, getting a pen that wasn't, and Man City not getting a pen that was, good.

Top clubs get lucky, Man U are similar to us. The better i become the luckier i get.. or something. You make your own luck.

What an odd post. I have never met an apparant Liverpool supporter who sides with rival views of our club.

I contend that any successful team has a equal array of luck. List how much luck Man Utd have had over the years, between refereeing decisions, etc.

I honestly question your motives on here.

Martin Atkinson I think

Regrading our luck, we still drew so I wouldn't look too much into last night. Though I'm optimistic about the second half of the season I admit. I'm absolutely adamant the foundations for success are in place and this cup will go a long way for us, to give us a taste and some confidence we can compete. To an extent it says a lot you say a lot of our misfortune has been down to luck

Forget the doom and gloom people, we're creating chance after chance and the football is great to watch at times, we're in good hands with Kenny. The only way is up  :)

And Joe Hart wouldn't have played another blinder against us. If we were lucky we would have won at least 4-0 last night. So no our luck hasn't changed, the players' determination may have done. A kick up the backside was very much needed.

Just because the question was asked in this thread, Mark Halsey is ref at the weekend, Atkinson has pulled out with a virus, so says Oliver Kay anyway

Postby red till i die!! » Thu Jan 26, 2012 1:45 pm

happy days we made a final and im delighted at the chance of winning it but i wouldnt say that our season is going to suddenly start now.
we played well last night and deserved to go through but we have played equally as good as this in other games this season where we have had more possession and chances created and still fell short because of the lack of quality in the squad.
look at the chances we had last night on target compared to city and then look at what was converted and you will see that we are pretty much as we were.i dont want to hear about hart playing out of his skin either as he did make 2 quality saves but the rest he would be expected to get.
if anything the credit for the performance last night lies with the rocket kenny fired up their ar$$es after that season low performance last week.
if we remain with the same personell till the end of the season then i expect a similar result to the first half where we just arent good enough to consistently win which is what we need to gain any sort of aspirations of 4th which imo is long gone from us.
as i said though i am delighted were going to wembley and we have a fantastic chance of winning a trophy but no way am i about to get carried away on the emotion of it and think we are suddenly gonna catch up and push city to the wire.

Adam Henderson and Downing all had decent games last night which is what we've been sadly lacking most of the season. There is no doubt that they are good players. Just good players playing badly and I think that's just been down to confidence (or lack of it).
Kenny's tirade at the weekend I feel was aimed at these players in particular so I would change the title of the topic from 'Has our luck changed?' to 'Has Kenny finally got through to their thick skulls and we might actually see these players putting in decent performances on a more consistent basis?'
One decent signing would certainly freshen things up as well.

What an odd comment. How is that siding with rival teams?

Small clubs get no luck because they don't make their own. Its not by chance that top sides are luckier. They are because they are better. Luck is created, it isn't detached from quality (for example if i take 10 shots and one takes a massive deflection and goes in), the effort/quality is rewarded.

virus my backside. more likely whiskeynose doesn't want him as referee. this would have been the first time atkinson had reffed united in 11 months which is almost unheard of.

so the answer to 'has our luck changed' is simply...
