Players can be drilled and trained to play in a certain way so that the team benefits and this responsibility must lie with first the manager and then the coaches. Are we suffering from losing Sammy Lee?
Top ten things that Carroll should do to improve as a player:
1. Use his body strength: I can't believe he was being thrown about by the bolton defense
2. Watch Didier Drogba's tapes: I hate the guy but in his prime he is simply unplayable.
3. If he is fighting for the ball and the defender pushes him or bars him physically and the ball is going away from him, make it obvious to the referee that he's being fouled.
4. If he is fighting for the ball and the defender pushes him or bars him physically and it looks like he can win the ball, use his feckin strength to win the ball.
5. Do more turning drills.
6. Do more shielding the ball with the body drills.
7. Do more turning drills.
8. Do more passing drills.
9. Do more shielding the ball with the body drills.
10. Use his head... as in his brain...

He did win a header with the very type of direct one dimensional service he was getting at Newcastle. We do not play this way for the vast majority of games so hes anonymous. Hes a limited player who is suited perfectly to a team like Stoke. I know hes on huge wages but i genuinely feel sorry for him now. He didn't choose to be put in this environment (even stated he didn't want to leave Newcastle), and the kind of expansive game on the floor that we aspire to play is completely alien to him. To ask Carroll to do what hes incapable of doing is unfair. The expectations are unrealistic.
