A case for the defence - Major overhaul?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Defence has been terrific it has to be said. Johnson is now the player we thought we had signed and at last we have a solid left back in Enrique. This has helpded both Agger and Skrtel in turn, and with due respect to Carra I do feel he wasnt helping their performances either when partnering either one. Now both centre backs take responsibiltry where as in the past almost left Carra to decide and dictate but no loner and its working.

Outstanding performance.. especially when u consider they are doing this without a holding midfielder

Pepe made up for his rare mistake last week with a fine save from Richards.

I've always been a big fan of Agger. Loved it when he wiped Torres out. If he wasn't there already, that fired him right into the hall of fame. It's no coincedence that we have such a solid defence and Agger is fit and playing.

johnson has been excellent recently aswell. absolutely laughable that kyle walker is all of a sudden ahead of him and micah richards in the england pecking order. even smalling and jones have played at right back merely because they play for united.

still worrying that with suarez out he's probably been our best attacking player though.

Aye, it's worrying. I've seen a few people on here mentioning the young uns. I'd like to see some given a chance. Maybe this belongs in the Kenny's Methods place, but I do wonder why we sign so many 'for the future'. A lot of the time it seems we sign them and they go into the reserves and we never see them again. All the reports about this new kid from Porto say he'll be off into the reserves too. Kenny likes giving the kids a chance. I'd love to see him take a few more risks though. Throw a few in at the deep end I say. It seems sooo long ago (perhaps Owen in fact) since LFC had a kid take the world by storm.

is it just me who thinks enrique looks tired in recent games? he's been excellent since he signed but his form has dropped off in the past couple of weeks which is hardly surprising as he's virtually played every minute of every game.

if it was me i'd certainly consider playing johnson at left back and kelly at right back tomorrow. doubt kenny will though.

Totally agree Mick, I think the last 3 games he has not played with the same intensity and has made a few mistakes.  Up to them he has been brilliant.  I hope it is just  a case of him needing a bot of a break
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

defence was excellent as usual last night despite the changes. johnson was arguably MOTM.

any word on how serious enrique's injury is? we'll badly need him against valencia on saturday.

he is listed as being out with a hamstring injury but unfortunately no return date.

id be confident enough that johnson can perform well there again if required.

johnson has been excellent this season imo. it was ridiculous how the media built up this "he can't defend" notion. an absolute myth.

i watched kyle walker last night as it's laughable how he's taken johnson's england shirt. complately overrated. johnson is a far more complete player.
