Excellent DD, keep up the good work. It's exactly what we need right now.

I thought he was very poor tonight, wouldn't try and get past a man and always play the safe ball. Very average.

I thought he was OK. Apart from the miss at the start he had an OK game, and that's the most we can expect from him, an OK and an average performance.

But that's not good enough for this club.

It's embarrassing when the left back looks more threatening then him

Second half last season Kuyt scored 5 goals in 5 games, first time since Johnny Barnes in 1998. Kenny playing Dowing is messing with a proven goal scorer which has cost Liverpool dear this season. Kuyt's got 2 seasons left in him, I'm not sure Downing can say the same.

I agree. Playing Downing on the right doesn't help the player or the club either.

I want all our players to succeed, I want Kenny to be right. But its looking increasingly likely that Downing just isn't going to work for us.

To be fair the lack of assists isn't necessarily all his fault.

Great cross for Carroll against Swansea(?), he hits the bar when it's easier to score.
Great cross for Suarez against Blackburn(?), heads it straight at the keeper.

There are probably others too. It's the end product that is missing, he ran Blackburn's left back ragged and constantly demanded the ball, he has terrific pace but at the end there is nothing to show for it.

Johnny - there are several more. He has provided several of the balls that have eventually hit the woodwork but then again the same will apply to a lot of midfield players. Not everything they create is going to turn into a goal. The simple fundamental problem with Downing,Adam and Henderson is that they do not create enough or score enough goals and that is the key reason why their stats are so poor. Carroll's miss against Swansea is so memorable because it is one of the very few decent balls he has ever received from Downing! Sorry but with those three our midfield is woeful.

Fair points mate.

We all know Downing hasn't achieved the level we would have liked, others too - I actually thought Adam had a decent run of solid performances, but last couple he has been poor.

The worry for me with Downing is whilst he obviously has pace, we currently have the best left back we have had for years, yet it still isn't working down our left as well it could.

We are so wasteful its unbelievable
Downing is as dangerous as a gummy hamster. Hes not the only one though. Henderson is like a little girl who is constantly on the verge of tears. Adam looks like someone has tied his laces together. Johnson is terrified to go past people and Carroll looks like a white Heskey.
KK needs to put a rocket up peoples ar'ses because this perseverance will bring no progress unless the players change their attitude.

we've got to stop playing him on the right.
he is rubbish out there and constantly lets himself and the play breakdown.playing a left winger on the right has its advantages if he cuts inside and either crosses back stick or have a shot(que adam johnson last night).but downing is incapable of that in that position as he is so 1 dimensional.
he needs a good kick up the fookin ar$e.
