20 million!

I wasnt aware of that stat.

Surely hes better than what hes showing with us... i thought he would be a very good signing but hes been anything but thus far. He seems to lack belief.

I hope Downing is watching this match to see how to get past people and put a ball across the box

Downing Henderson Adam Carroll - nearly £85m and it isn't really working. Serious disappointments. Downing is a problem but not the only problem. Bellamy cost nothing and Enrique was about £6m and both players, especially Enrique, have performed very well.It is not all bad news.Central midfield looks very good at the moment. It's just a shame we can't feckin score. Before long we will be known as paint strippers United !!!!!!

Why when we couldn't of got him - stupid statement , might as well said we should of gone for Messi

Do you realise Downing has hit the post 3 times and from his crosses Suarez has hit the post 3 times and Carroll twice .

Downing is creating chances - they just aren't been taken currently

Exactly.. It's apples and oranges.  We can't say why didn't get mata instead of Downing or Aguero instead of Carroll... Those players didn't want to come to our club.

I think Downing is suffering something similar to Carroll.. He's been very unlucky and he's lacking confidence.  He's put some great balls in and made some great runs down the line, but we aren't finishing the opportunities he is creating.  He scored a volley Carroll set up against arsenal that was wrongly disallowed for another phantom foul on Carroll, and I believe he was the one that set up Carroll's goal that was wrongly disallowed against sunderland.  Sure that's only 2, but he's been very unlucky with some shots off the post and others not finishing the chances he creates.

I'm not saying I"m happy with his performances, but it's not as bad as it seems.

There are 250,000 reasons why we didn't get Aguero and the small question of the CL. Has Mata really been that good for Chelsea?

As for Downing he was bought as a supply line for Carroll and yes with some luck his record could look significantly better but for me he just isn't providing the service often enough. For me Enrique has been a stand out purchase along with Suarez. The others still have a lot to prove.

Yes that's concrete proof that Mata would of come to us .

So does that mean every single player we are rumoured to be buying we had a chance to buy ?!

Come on DD since when did we start believing everything in the media

I dont but there was strong talk at the time that Kenny went for Downing over Mata as he was proven in the Prem. I remember Balague saying that we were interested at one stage.

Ah well.

Stewart will come good  :;):

Well he is very reliable when it comes to Spanish players, he is the one the broke the Torres to Chelsea story first and I remember he got abused for that.
