Carra has been past it for a while now. Skrtel and Agger deserves to be our first choice at CB.

Our defense is outstanding at the moment. Not only we have a great partnership between Skrtel and Agger, but also between Carra and Coates. They hardly gave Chelsea strikers a chance today. Also Coates could learn a lot from Carra like this. Now we have two partnerships, one for league and one for cup games :D. Hope they keep this up!

agree
for a second string defense tonight they did well.
was well impressed with coates and he could be the next sami for us.
lately our defence has been second to none and with that competition it will only get better.
the kenny magic is beginning to work again.

A bit early to compare him to Sami but I like what I see in Coates. He's still a kid and he's still prone to giving you the odd heart in mouth moment but for one so young his composure is second to none.

Carra could soon find himself fourth choice centre back.

thats the comparison i seen in him last night and i thought he looked very sami like .id like to see a bit more of the lad though.

carra as 4th choice is testament to the quality we have here.
not leaking goals breeds a confidence throughout the team and we look very confident atm.
its a pleasure to watch us play once more

I cant recall the last time we had such a solid, stable, consistent first five of...

Reina
Johnson
Enrique
Agger
Skrtel

Feels great knowing the opening five names on the team sheet week in week out, and feel confident. Clarke is doing a fine job with the backline.

Individually I don't think Skrtel or Agger are top class defenders if I'm honest, but collectively the whole back line are doing brilliantly and that has to be as much down to the coaching team as anything else.

Sadly though you have to wonder how long Agger can stay fit for.

I honestly believe we have the best defense in the league right now.  Least goals conceded, and since Carra has spent time on the bench we've stopped conceding as much as we had.

3 goals conceded in the last 6 games, against city, chelsea and fulham.  That's pretty damn good.

What we've got is working, so I can't see anything changing.

mate- you are entitled to your opinion, but just enjoy the moment with skittel & agger! they are keeping a LFC legend out of the team at the moment, that has to be a major positive for all concerned! & imho quite rightly aswell! they are playing out of their skin at the moment the pair of them! please long may that continue!! it's all about a squad fighting for a place in the side isn't it? which we haven't had for a long time.

i know some will differ with me on this, but iv'e always liked skittel! cause he is for me an old fashioned centre back- in that he does what he is employed to do-defend first & formost. he gets stuck in,doesn't shy away from challanges & that's what i have always seen in quality cb's in our club over the years.

yes i agree that he isn't the best skilled player in a cb we have been blessed with over the years. his pace may let him down somtimes but for me he has great knowledge & awarness of what is going on around him -he is great at sniffing out possible danger, after all his has had a great teacher in carra!

as for agger-it's brilliant to see that he has confidence in his cb partner, that he can go foward with the ball to get the attack going from the back! so for me individually & together have been brilliant & have taken their chance in the side to make sure it works for them both aswell as benefiting the team also!

I have doubts about Skrtel's ability and Agger's potential to stay fit. BUT...we've got the best defensive record in the league at present, and that's good enough for me.

13 league goals scored against this season and don't forgot 4 of them were in the one game against spurs.

Good point on the Spurs game.  Throw out that result and its a mean defense indeed :buttrock

Skrtel seems much less prone to the lunges and penalty give aways plaguing earlier seasons.  Solid at the back, no complaints.

Agger & Skrtel are currently the best cb pairing in the country, baffles me reading some posts on here. Haters gonna hate an all that.

will be interesting to see if the defence stays the same with so many games coming up in such a short space of time. i see no reason to change it but we could well see agger rested for a game somewhere along the line, possibly blackburn at home.
