Man Utd's likely starting XI have scored 58 goals in all competitions this season between them. Messi has 52 on his own. :D

The CL group stages have become a joke!  I honestly think they need to rearrange the competition to make it more competitive.  Its too fair on the weaker countries.  I believe England, Italy and Spain should get more teams into the qualifying stages and maybe have more qualifiers.

Take a look at the groups and there are a number of average teams.  THEN, check out the list below for teams that Id consider total tripe!

Trabzonspor
Basle
SC Otelul Galati
Lille
Dinamo Zagreb
Genk
poel Nicosia
Shakhtar Donetsk
BATE Borisov
Plzen

The group stages have just become predicatable.  The whole top half of the PL would batter some of the tripe in Europe's top competition.

I agree.

They really should be in the Europa League. The problem is the Europa League doesn't offer the same financial benefits the CL offers.

I am still surprised they didn't pursue the change of Europa League into CL div 2. This way they could leverage the financial power of the CL to maintain some decent financial incentive to those in CL Div 2 but more importantly keep all of Europes elite together in Div 1 without having to dilute it with fairly poor Eastern European sides.

What would you say was harder to win, the old European Cup or the Champions League?
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

It used to be just knock out right?

That would make it harder cos your potentially screwed if you have one bad game or if you have a lot of injuries.

I like the current set up tbh, they just need to find a way to filter out all the shi.te teams.  Maybe something like what SCS descried on previous page
