He's probably as fast as anyone in our squad, but I think we are lacking in a bit of pace generally. Good player though, im happy with how he has settled in so far.

He's fast as hell.  He knows how to move the ball really well.  He's really good at taking on fullbacks.  He's great at crossing.  He works hard tracking back.  He's fit right in and been one of our best players in the first 2 games.

He's a natural winger....

Glad to see so many people were wrong about him. :)

you sir have just gone up in my estimations. yes your on the bottom rung now

nah seriously well said mate, agree 100%

So I guess you like me more than anybody else then...  :D

I dont think anyone down here said he wasnt a natural winger.. The only thing that was said as far as i can tell was that he wasnt worth 20mill... So far, the jury is still out on that but he certainly filled a gap in the side and has so far contributed more than our other 20mill signing Henderson...

Worth 20mill ? Can tip either way... If he keeps performing the way he has in the first 2 games (average overall in both I would say) I think people will start getting on his back because for large periods of both games he went missing... Definitely needs to improve and start making an impact (assists, goals are a fast way to doing so)

Good player, good buy but he still needs to step up his game because most importantly imo, he could very well be the critical factor in offering balance to the side given Kenny's system and selections..

I don't het why people get so hung up on how much people cost. It's not our money, as long as the squad/team improve who cares.

If Downing cost 10 mill would his performances be valued any different?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Downing and Enrique on the left flank were so electrifying entertaining to watch in the Bolton game. I have no doubts about our strength on the left with these 2 guys around. I'm a bit concerned about our right flank however. Hendo is not a natural left winger, I'm surprised Kenny didn't sign a Downing like right winger.

Downing has really impressed me.

I would like to see more 'end product' from him, apart from that he's doing fantastically well.

the great thing about hime now is he's always looking to play give and goes all the time which fits in perfectly with kenny's philosophy. a lot of the time when i saw him at boro and villa he was all about getting the ball out of his feet and whipping it in early.

He certainly looks like he's having a good time out there. The goal came from the right as well, versatility right there! :D

Good performance from Downing tonight. After the joke of the last world cup I find it hard to watch England these days. His work for the goal was the highlight of the game. Pity about the scumbag up front
They say you shouldn't hate because it eats you out inside. So normally I just dislike. But that scum-muncher from the other end of the east lancs road, I do. With a passion
