We cant get rid of Aqua, not on the performances he has put in, hes been by far an away our best player, even if only on for 10 minutes in some cases, I cannot understand why we have bought Henderson, although his movement is ok, he looked shocking for England, and IMO has been :censored: for us too, hopefully he will develop into a world beater, but jesus, Aqua is making a lot of our players look amateur.  Cant help thinking hes doing it just to get bought though :(

Let's hope there's no takers and he views next season as a shop window, then!

Welcome back Lando !

Lowering his wage would help a lot. As an aside, yes he has done well pre-season, but pre-season isnt the premiership. So far he has proven to be very lightweight when it comes to that. While everyone is trying to find their fitness and form he has done well. But once the season starts, will he show the same kind of form? I very much doubt it. Pre-season isnt as physical as a premiership match, and its that fact that concerns me.

i think the fact Juventus offered just 5 million for him says it all. He's talented, for sure, but he's lightweight and injury prone. Not suited to the premier league

I think the biggest reason why Italian clubs are lowballing us is probably the fact that he wants out and they know he wants out.  I've heard that Comolli is trying to convince him to stay but I don't know if that has had any success.  It's no different than what we did with Adam, Aquilani is obviously a better player but if someone wants out then clubs aren't going to pay a high price unless they are forced to.  Hopefully he'll change his mind or at least give off the impression that he is happy to stay so people will up their bids.

Up their bids or not, we shouldnt be letting him go... Especially not with Gerrard set to miss the first couple of months or so.... I dont think Henderson is anywhere near ready to control the midfield and it will most likely end up with Aquilani and Adam challenging for the 3rd midfield spot (alongside Lucas and Meireles)...

Carroll in the side somewhat changes our style of play and makes us too predictable at times... Add to that Downing and Kuyt on the flanks and Lucas & Adam down the middle and we're in serious risk of abandoning the possession style all together... I think players like Aquilani, Suarez and to a lesser extent Cole and Meireles are needed to maintain balance and fluidity in the side... They'll help us up the tempo and get behind defenses with a little more urgency...

The main problem with the whole Aquilani situation imo was created from the management's decision to invest tons of money on Henderson and Adam when we clearly didnt need to... We're now left in the situation where we might need to sell some of the better players (Aquilani and rumors of Meireles being on the transfer list) to make room for the new players...

Yeah I agree Kenny has bought players for a style that I'm not too keen on personally.  I think the way we were playing without Carroll toward the end of the season was what I had hoped Kenny would go for but it doesn't seem that way at all.  We're going to be extremely direct and while I still think we will be effective it's not going to be that pleasing to watch when it's not clicking.  I think we needed Henderson though I personally rate him and I think that Stevie's career is declining faster than we had hoped.  It's sad, I really hope he can come back but I am worried he won't.  Lets not forget Henderson is only 20, he has all the tools to be a great player.

I trust Kenny to get it all to come together but at the same time I'm a little worried that we will struggle at the start of the season.  Then again he could be building two different styles of play, Suarez up front instead of Carroll would completely change the way we play altogether so it's a nice thing to have in that sense I suppose.  I just wonder what our 1st choice really is, cause the direct stuff we're playing in preseason does not fill me with confidence.

Cheers mate.

To be honest I think a lot of the problems stemmed from his injury and uncertainty over whether it had fully healed. That said, he is never going to be a full-blooded tackler, so we'll have to wait and see how it pans out - if he stays...

Well I guess we should at least give him a chance a couple of games, it won't hurt us, especially that he deserves it after his performances in pre-season. If it doesn't work out then we move him out, but he might turn out to be a brilliant player for us.

nice to see Lando posting again :buttrock

I'm going to take a different approach to the where Aqua fits condumdrum and say Suarez and Carroll don't necessarily have to be in the team at the same time, scuse the defence by the way :D

There's enough versatility in the rest of the squad to alter it according to our needs, personally, I don't think we have a strongest 11 anymore, just a team that will change depending on who we play

                      Pepe

Jonno       Dann     Agger      Enrique

               Lucas   Adam/Meireles

Dirk/Hendo       Aqua/Gerrard       Downing/Suarez

                   Carroll/Suarez

like I said its very interchangable, I don't think anyone will play every game but everyone could get their turn. The way we've shipped goals in pre-season is worrying but I reckon once Lucas comes in and sits in front of the defence things will settle
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Looks like Kenny Dalglish is preparing to give him a chance, but Aquilani is still mulling on a move back home
