Alberto Aquilani has provided more Premier League assists (6) than Luka Modric (5) since August 2009

hmmm. not to be too "anti" but it depends on where you get your stats from of course. some sources  say that aquilani has made 5 assists for liverpool, and some say modric has made 6 for spurs

(modric scored 7 goals for spurs during that time while aquilani scored 2.)

IMO, Suarez could use a player like aquilani providing the through balls... But if aquilani doesn't want to play for us, it's a difficult situation...

its certainly looking like a 'who'd you rather have' adam vs aquilani kind of thing.

either way if aquilani stays or goes or we get them both, i'm still going to be shaking my head in disbelief. we already have 3 established international midfielders, plus henderson, plus spearing, plus either or both these two and to top it off i've read that we're heavily linked with fernando gago.

this is madness!

i hope comolli and king kenny are not involved in some weird power struggle involving transfer policies.

personally i'd rather keep aqua and put that 10 million or so that adam wouldve cost to use in getting a decent winger that has no problems with 'contractual disputes'.

Personally id keep Aqua, keep the 9 (ish) million wed need for Adam and put it towards getting Aguero (the big :censored: OFF signing)

didnt you just put Adam on your wishlist in the rumour thread?  :D

I'm torn on Aqua now, whatever Kenny decides is fine with me. I'm not convinced either way. Ability is there but his mind isn't set on it. Just end it this summer one way or another

Aquilani to stay imo with the the 10 or so million spent elsewhere..

To be perfectly honest, neither would make the starting 11 with everyone fit and playing at their best.. If we do decide to play 3 down the middle then Lucas is a nailed on starter (our only half decent defensive midfielder) with Gerrard and Meireles/Henderson commanding the other spot.

I think Meireles is the more complete and better player of the three (Aquilani, Adam being the other two) and playing at his best it would be hard o leave him out.  Between Aquilani and Adam, Aquilani gets the nod for me especially in a side filled with hard workers and a manager seemingly favoring a possession based style of play.

NEWS FLASH:

Alberto Aquliani had 24 assists for LFC last season when he assisted the physio in rubbing deep heat into his legs.

Made up for the lad.

Feel the exact same way.

aCe, the problem I have in Meireles is not the ability he has, but the consistency in which he uses it.  Some games this season he was the best player on the pitch, and other games he was the worst.

I like Meireles a lot because I think he is a really good person.  It's easy to see that he's a really classy professional and I appreciate when players go out of the way to make sure they are doing the right things.  I think next season may be a breakout season for him, and he may turn into one of the best CM's in the league, but if he stays as he was this season then his inconsistencies will soon knock him out of the starting 11.

I dont think much can be taken from the season Meireles had to be perfectly honest.  I mean, he's played down the right flank, down the left flank, and as a second striker for the majority of the season if not the whole season. Now heres the thing:

1) hes in a new league and needs to be afforded some time to adapt to the country, club, style, and manager tactics and we all know the amount of turmoil we've had in the one season

2) Hes never played the positions I've mentioned above for either club or country before. We bought him primarily due to his abilities as a central midfielder and never really gave him the chance to prove himself in the position for whatever reason ( for me it was a lack of options in other positions)

That said, if someone comes out and says Meireles isnt the best tackler around and as such wouldnt make a good CM ten i might somewhat understand what they're going on about. Personally i think hes more of a Carrick/Gago type who would rather play deeper and use good positioning to cover defensively while getting on the ball as often as possible when we are building attacks. I think a combination of him and Lucas trying to control our middle is at the very least worth a shout for the time being.

looks like sick note is coming back. Juventus only offered 6 million and Milan didn't want him.
