I somewhat like the fact that the last billion pages of transfer gossip on here has been on Adam, Wickham going to Sunderland, Downing and now Milner.  It really means we are working behind closed doors.  Those are all players form the English league, and now that the foreign window is open I expect we are talking with clubs like Valencia Over Mata or Villareal over Carzorla.

I think we are finally keeping the door closed on our transfers, ensuring nobody else gets involved or gets into a bidding war with us.

One morning I expect to wake up and see that we've signed 5 players for 100 million pounds :D  Mata, Cahill, Baines, Lennon and.... somebody else.

You heard it here first :p

i'm not happy about the aaron lennon rumours today. don't rate him at all. i'd rather have downing and that is saying something. at least he can cross a ball. lennon has pace but nothing else.

I can't see Tottenham letting him go anyway.

I've stopped trying to keep up now. I'm just going to wait and see how we do over the next two months and go from there. I want to believe we're working behind closed doors but some of the comments on here make that almost impossible for me. You could call it ignorance but right now I reckon that's the best approach. The future can't be predicted so I'm keeping away from the transfer side of things til I see what it brings
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Do people have collective amnesia concerning transfers? :D  Every summer there's an early signing or two followed by mere rumours or whiffs of activity for weeks.  Then, at long last, the players (managers, agents...) return from hols and training resumes.  It's then that the real business starts getting done.  It's all well and good to wish that we get our signings sorted the day the season ends but it never happens that way.  I think some people thought Kenny and Comolli would just be able to snap their fingers and sign people up but the system just doesn't work that way.

very true bad bob...       maybe it takes a few training sessions for the boss to spot where he needs to strengthen then he'll go shopping.

Indeed, Lee...or a few sessions to realize that Player X's head has been turned by all the transfer talk and it's best to move him on.  I suspect that the first few days in training at any club involve a fair few heart-to-hearts between the manager and certain players, as each tries to get a read on where the other stands on the issue of a transfer.

Top duo battle for Dann

Skysports.com understands Chelsea and Arsenal are ready to battle it out for Birmingham defender Scott Dann.

As revealed by skysports.com last week, new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has identified a new defender as one of his top transfer targets and he is thought to be keen on bringing in a British centre-half.

Bolton defender Gary Cahill has been mentioned as a possible target, but skysports.com understands Cahill is not on Chelsea's wanted list and that Dann is Villas-Boas' preferred choice.

Dann has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the country during the last two seasons and his absence from the heart of the Birmingham defence for the second half of last season through injury contributed to the club's eventual relegation.

The 24-year-old is keen to stay in the Premier League and Birmingham are resigned to losing their prized asset this summer.

Accomplished

A host of clubs have been credited with an interest in 6ft 5in defender Dann with Liverpool, Aston Villa and Stoke all chasing his signature.

However, it appears Chelsea and Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head for the former Coventry man.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made a new central defender one of his top priorities and Dann is thought to figure highly on his wanted list.

Wenger is ready to firm up his interest in the accomplished central defender as he looks to add a dominant defender to his ranks.

Meanwhile, skysports.com understands Stoke have agreed a deal with Birmingham for Dann, but that the player is holding out to see what comes of Chelsea and Arsenal's interest as he wants to be playing at the highest level possible.
