Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham all made contact with Anderlecht in January and lead the Europe-wide chase for a striker who is valued at €30m (£25.2m) by his club.

Belgium's most successful club are resigned to losing their prized asset this summer but recognise that it will be a good time to cash in on the 17-year-old, who has a release clause in his contract in 2013.

Lukaku told Goal.com UK last month that he would love to play for any of the big clubs in the Premier League and a switch to England in the summer is "more likely" than a move to Spain or Germany, where he has been courted by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively.

Insiders believe a switch could be agreed within "a few months" and completed as soon as the transfer window opens in June.

Chelsea have long been the favourites to sign boyhood Blues fan Lukaku, whose style of play has been likened to that of his hero and Stamford Bridge talisman Didier Drogba.

Ironically, it would require the departure of either Drogba or Nicolas Anelka to free up some space for Lukaku in the Chelsea forward line.

"Torres, Drogba, Anelka and Lukaku is one too many," added the source. "But Torres, Anelka and Lukaku is perfect."

It is a slightly different story at Anfield. Liverpool director of strategy Damien Comolli is a huge admirer of Lukaku and believes his height, power and pace are ideally suited to the Premier League.

At 6ft 3in, the Belgium international is similar in stature to Carroll and can only play in the centre-forward position, but Comolli has made it clear that he wants to entice the cream of young European talent to Anfield with potential re-sale value.

If we go Romelu Lukaku id offically have spunk trunks for a week. Him and Carroll upfront would batter the out of any defense and add Suarez in the mix in a front 3 and they wouldnt know whats hit them.

I'll have a bit of Lukaku.

Well is boyhood is still happening and he probably only started actually supporting a team a few years ago... so he's just another bandwagon chelski fan

I am still not to keen on Lukaka, but I wasn't keen on N'zogbia either, and watching his last game he was fantastic, so maybe I'm wrong again.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for young Valencia forward Paco Alcacer in the local Spanish press.

Valencia newspaper Superdeporte claims that the Reds have sent scouts to watch a number of Alcacer's games, and though Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested, a bid from Liverpool appears most likely.

One of the greatest legacies of the Rafa Benitez reign as Liverpool manager is his overhaul of the club's academy.

"The progress at the Academy in the last year and a half has been absolutely fantastic," said current boss Kenny Dalglish.

"That's great credit to Rafa [Benitez] who brought in Pepe Segura, Rodolfo Borrell and Frank McParland. He reorganised the whole Academy and you can see the benefit in the kids now. It's fantastic to see."

The 17 year-old Alcacer made his first team debut for Valencia earlier this season, and has scored 15 goals in 13 games for Spain's U17 side.

He now has 2 in 2 for the U18s, and could become part of the revolution on Merseyside, joining fellow Spaniards Suso, Dani Pacheco, Dani Ayala and Emmanuel Mendy.

However, his contract expires in 2013, and Liverpool are highly unlikely to pay his €10m release clause.

Liverpool have identified teenage playmaker Christian Eriksen as a potential summer signing after being impressed with the Ajax midfielder's strong performances in Holland.

The Anfield club showed their intent in January when they brought Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez to the club for a combined fee of £57.5million and now seem intent to continue their extravagant spending.

Damien Comolli, director of football at Liverpool, spent close to a week in Amsterdam as he negotiated a deal for Uruguayan forward Suarez and was said to be impressed with Eriksen.

The Danish international is still just 18-years-of-age but has impressed with a number of mature performances for Ajax and has been tipped as a potential star of the future.

Liverpool seem to have adopted a new transfer policy under owners Fenway Sports Group as they attempt to identify young, talented players with big futures ahead of them.

Eriksen certainly fits the current model as Liverpool believe the midfielder, who has been compared with Dennis Bergkamp, has a bright future and may be available for around £10m.

The Dutch club are currently suffering from financial woes and may be prepared to let the Denamrk international leave the club, rather than lose established stars such as Maarten Stekelenburg and Gregory van der Wiel.

Eriksen arrived at Ajax in 2008 and quickly progressed through the talented youth team to make his first team debut much quicker than anyone at the club expected.

The former Odense youth player has played nearly 50 times for the Eredvisie side and this season has managed two goals from his nine league starts.

I don't know if we need to look at a young striker at the moment because we have 2 good ones, unless Kenny wants the 4-3-3 formation back, but right now our 3-2 in the back seems to work well with a couple at CM and maybe 2 up top once Suarez and Carroll are fit.

Right now, I think we could really just go for another CB to play with Agger and Carra, and a LW to replace maxi. We get those and I think we'll be alright, could be title challengers next year.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Spanish youngster Sergio Canales.

The 19-year-old joined Real Madrid last summer - spurning the chance to move to Merseyside, according to Goal.com - but has struggled to make an impact on Jose Mourinho's side.

Spanish publication, Onda Cero, has since claimed that Real were willing to let the attacking midfielder leave the Bernabeu and, now, caughtoffside.com reports that Liverpool have registered their interest.

Despite his lack of first team action - and the reported interest from Liverpool - Canales is more than happy to remain in Madrid and fight for his place, commenting that he continues to enjoy the experience with Los Blancos.

"It's complicated when you don't play all the time, but this is Real Madrid," he said.

"I am very happy with how the fans greeted me. The crowd seemed to feel much affection for me, which is important to me."

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Liverpool target Santi Cazorla.

According to imscouting.com, the north London club are keen on the €20 million-rated Villarreal attacker, which would suggest a summer move is a possibility.

AS initially reported that Liverpool were considering a move for the 26-year-old in January but, although it did not come to fruition, the Anfield club are understood to remain keen on the Spaniard.

Cazorla has previously been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona but is said to have his sights set on a switch to the Barclays Premier League - seemingly opening the door for Arsenal or Liverpool.

A move for a player of Cazorla's value would appear to go against the ethos of Arsenal, who are famed for breeding success without spending heavily in the transfer market.

talian newspaper Leggo are reporting that Liverpool are chasing Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

It states that the Italian club fear a bid from the Reds at the end of the season.

The Argentine has been on good form this season, helping Napoli to second in Serie A, and has scored seven goals in 26 games.

The 25-year-old forward is currently earning less that €2million a year, according to Leggo, and Liverpool are willing to give the player a salary bettering that by €1million if he joins the Merseyside club in the summer.

Reported Liverpool target Sylvain Marveaux has played his last game for Rennes, according to the club.

The 24-year-old is expected to leave Rennes when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Liverpool and Newcastle reportedly expressing an interest in his signature.

Marveaux will undergo groin surgery on Wednesday, which is expected to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign, and Les Rouges et Noirs' general manager, Pierre Dreossi, is resigned to losing the midfielder forever.

"We will never see Sylvain Marveaux in the jersey of Rennes again," he said, as reported by skysports.com.

Liverpool are expected to reignite their interest in the Frenchman in the summer after making an initial enquiry during January and would appear to be one of the the favourites to strike a deal.

According to skysports.com, Marveaux's representatives have already entered discussions with a number of potential suitors and the player is thought to be interested in a move to Liverpool.

Should Marveaux make the switch to Anfield, he is likely to provide Liverpool with an exciting attacking option - possessing bags of creative ability as well as an eye for goal.

Liverpool are known to be keen to add more inventive minds to their midfield ranks, which was demonstrated in their ill-fated chase for Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

However, the Scot could yet join Liverpool in the summer after Blackpool boss, Ian Holloway, claimed it would be 'impossible' to stop him leaving Bloomfield Road.
