Most of his performances haven't been good enough since he was signed, well until recently that is. I don't know how people reckon he's been playing well for a year or so, he hasn't.

RED BEERGOGGLES wrote:The job Lucas was given in midfield when Alonso departed was always destined to be a thankless task ...speaking personally I believe he has always tried to perform that role admirably ,how people can say he didn't last season beggars belief, he was one of our best players and the only one who was willing to make a tackle ....just think of how daunting a midfield that included Mascherano and Gerrard a team that had pushed the Mancs all the way ,suddenly those players I've mentioned literally spitting their collective dummies out and deciding they would show no fight ..
I was unfortunate to witness a few of those very games the Lad ran his heart out with little reward ....Gerrard's contribution or lack of it was a disgrace so too Mascherano ..... they clearly had distractions Mascherano obviously wanted out and Gerrard had asked the manager for his permission to have surgery in order not to miss the World Cup ....the refusal by Benitez brought about these shameful performances
fans who pay their hard earned coin to travel to these shithole grounds of the Premiership were forced to endure these games shorn of our usual combative midfield ....only Lucas looked like he could give a fuck in those games
So it is no surprise that the Lad is now receiving the plaudits he so readily deserves ..Lucas is a great little player who is on top of his game right now and playing with real authority ...for me the Lad should have been our Captain when SG was injured his contribution to our improving game has been that important

Looks like you were right, Lad.

Brazilian pleased Hodgson decided not to sell in the summer.
Lucas Leiva is pleased he did not leave Liverpool in the summer after emerging as an important member of the first team at Anfield.
The Brazil international was told in the close season he would be sold if a suitable bid was received in the transfer window.
As a result, Lucas was linked with Juventus, Sevilla and South American club Santos, and the 23-year-old has confirmed he was the subject of 'a few offers' from unnamed sources.
But Liverpool decided not to sell and the 2007 arrival from Gremio is now an integral part of manager Roy Hodgson's rebuilding process at Anfield, with reports suggesting a new contract is on the horizon.
Professional
"When they told me, I said I will try to find a club, but that I would not go just anywhere," Lucas said in the Daily Telegraph when asked about Liverpool's summer intention to sell.
"[I said] I think I can be at a good club, since Liverpool is a good club and I had been here for three years.
"But I also said I would fight for my place, I will train, that I am a professional. It was not easy, but sometimes you have to be calm.
"A few offers came, but Liverpool did not accept them. I am glad that I stayed, because I am playing well, helping the team, and I am more important now than I was a few months ago.
I will be delighted if the Lad signs a new contract his partnership with Meireles needs time to blossom ,and his performances have been one of the very rare plus points in what's been a dismal first half of the season ...............

Totally agree, Probably one of the few pluses this season, The good thing about Lucas is he is only going to improve and he seems very settled in the city, he also seems a much liked player in the dressing room (no not that way) , after the stick he was given I am glad to hold my hands up and admit I was wrong,
Guess what? Rafa was right again

I do admire his effort though, you can't fault the lad for that. I actually quite like him, but bottom line is if we want to progress he can't be a regular starter.
