this is the key for me. he is NOT a winger. he does all his damage when he plays more central.

once again though, it's no surprise that he looks far better when the team retain the ball and move off it. away from home we don't do this though so he's largely anonymous a lot of the time as we tend to hoof it aimlessly from the back.

you gotta think what would have happened with Riera and Babel and the like if theyd been played more centrally as well. We have always seemed short of wingers and looked for easy options which sometimes work, sometimes dont.

gotta admit Maxi has prooved me wrong, i thoguht he was useless and past it

He is not afraid to put himself about either. Stocky little battler. Looked like he and Torres had a good understanding on Saturday and that may well prove vital over the coming weeks when Gerrard is missing.

Thanks to the utter uselessness of this idiot, we've lost today's match. Boot him on the first plane home to Argentina.

harsh on him mate, he did well, linked up really well with Torres today, very idiotic with his misses yes, but he everywhere in the first half.

Someone just need to teach him where the goal is

I think he did well especially in the first half but in the later stage of the second half, he might be out of gas. But today, I think we were just exposed by pure speed.

One of our best performers today, despite the missed chance. Hardly misplaced a pass and that really helped us keep possession higher up the pitch. Crafty little bugger isn't he.

Great game, bad miss when trying to beat Gomes.

I presume you mean Torres as well? He had 2 gilt edged chances himself. Maxi looks a really good player at the moment and is linking well with Torres

Sorry, I was a bit harsh on him. I wrote that when the full time whistle went. I should have calmed down first. Yes, he has improved over the past few games, but that was a dreadful miss today. Easier chance than Torres' chances. It once again highlights the need for a new forward.

Good to see youve calmed down
Nobody scores at every attempt, but he did cost us the game in my opinion

Maxi's miss comes from over confidence and that's a good thing ,at the start of the season he would have just took the leather off it ,but he now tries the more skilful approach ,and on this occasion it never came off ...... but its good he is trying these things and in the first half he had more shots on goal  than anyone .....still think he deserves to be played in a strikers role at the moment thought his movement at times today was exceptional

he's a player who has evolved from 'probably not good enough' to 'regularly excellent player'.... and weirdly all under that clueless old pensioner hodgson's regime. :O

i'm loving the way that him and torres are playing together though. there seems to be a genuine understanding between them that really must start to click properly very soon.
