Respect - Is hodgson being treated fairly?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Where have i ever said its ok to abuse the manager ?

Where have i ever stated i disrespect the manager ?

I live in a world where respect is earned and gained through actions not given straight away .

I didnt respect you when i got here first because i didnt know you - you then earnt it but then threw it away .

see, thats the difference, i respect everyone until they do something to earn my disrespect, thats how i was brought up, to respect people

Thats fine - the problem you have to understand is just because i dont respect someone doesnt mean im going to disrespect them or say its ok to abuse someone .

Football fans on the whole dont show someone immediate respect - they feel there respect should be earned - all our previous managers in their own right earnt it

Shanks - pretty damn quickly with his actions and words
Paisley - earnt it with his work with shanks
Fagan - earnt it with his work with the boot room
Dalglish - earnt it as a player
Evans - earnt it with is years and years working in the boot room
Souness - earnt it as a player
GH - earnt it with his results on the pitch
Rafa - earnt it with his CL win and his interaction with the fan s.

so u didnt respect roy at fulham? or he lost your respect when he came here?

I had not one bit of iffinity towards Hodgson while at Fulham - he wasnt our manager . What he did elsewhere for me just points to his ability as a football manager .

Your taking as if respect is just a flick of a switch - it grows on people , it happens over a period of time , for Rafa it happened over the period of time .

You respect him Dawson thats your right - i will wait until he earns it . With his critisim of the fans he has put himself on the back foot .

With regards to drop dead gorgeous football.....it wasn't always drop dead gorgeous in the early 80's on occassion but if the job gets done then the beauty is what lies at the end of the rainbow and not the yellow brick road....that could be the beginnings of a hit movie.!

so the picture of roy, taking his face off to show fergie is fine in your eyes?

the roy abuse has been disgraceful mate, thats what we want stopped

To be perfectly honest I have never seen it or any other avatars and name panels etc because I have the control switched off....

It does appear there are a few on here that may take the criticism a step too far but in comparison to the newkit assassination squad of the last 2 years during Benitez's reign the irony is incredible....it appears that for 40 odd years all fans have been allowed to debate and criticise liverpool players and managers with regards to the game, tactics etc but for some reason if you have a moan this season it's because you have it in for Roy.......only on newkit

Just hope Gerrard doesn't pick the team today and Mierelles is centre mid

For me, I never gave Roy a thought...ranked him in Curbishley,McCarthy,Bruce,Big Sam etc group of managers...felt he does a fine job with bottom to middle teams ...never expected him to be the manager for Liverpool but time will tell.

To be fair I also never expected Liverpool to attract any of the top managers of Europe whilst the ownership problem was on the agenda...

Thats how I feel and I still feel like that now, that hes still one of the mediocre teams in the prems manager and not liverpools.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

i liked him a lot until the last season and a half or so, even including the one where we nearly won it. by the middle of his last season i was beginning to despair and think that a change might be a good idea - i just didn't feel he had the team playing for him 100% and the situation between him and the owners was untenable. to be honest i was also hoping for a higher class of manager than roy hodgson but that doesn't mean i'm going to stcik the boot in every chance i get. nor am i going to actively go looking for excuses to put the boot in.

there's an element of truth in this idea that respect has to be earned, but it doesn't mean that the only option up until that point is abuse.

for me it just seemed mean. he came when no one else would and from day one people were undermining him and not being nice. its fine to not like someone, not respect them, but you gotta be constructive or it'll be anarchy

It funny because I totally agree to, but at some point you have to draw the line and support the manager.

NESV have already made it clear than he won't be sacked this season based on the fact it would be unfair on Hodgson (any manager for that matter) - he like all managers needs time to turn a team round. How many manager's enjoy instant success with a new team?

I will offer Hodgson the same time and respect I offered Benitez. One season.

"Support is different to respect mate - name someone at Liverpool who was given instant respect ? "

I did read it. And Im still confused. Are you saying that Paisley, Fagan and Kenny didnt have respect from the supporters the instant they were announced manager??
Are you suggesting we had no respect for them until they had won 15, 20, 30 games or a trophy?
???

Yes they had the respect the instant they became managers - guess why Thommo ?

All three had already earnt the respect of the fans for the work they had already done at the club before taking on the managers job - same with souness same with evans .

Shanks earnt the respect after taking the job , same with GH and same with Rafa

Hodgson has to do the same

The wierd and wonderful world of GYBS
So Hodgson has to earn respect the same way as Paisley, Fagan and Kenny did before they became managers?

"All three had already earnt the respect of the fans for the work they had already done at the club before taking on the managers job"

Ok I get the point. They worked for the club before they were managers.
Now tell me, how the fu'ck Hogson is going to do that?
