Dont for one second say martin o' Fu*king neill please. Or Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Glenn Hoddle, sven goran erickson, gary megson, steve mclaren, fabio capello or any other ridiculous suggestion

What do you all think of Manuel Pellegrini? He seemed to do a good job at Villarreal and Real Madrid. He got Villarreal to the CL semis and set a points record (96) at Real Madrid last year.  From what I can see, he is unemployed at the moment.

sven is an option. He did very well to get an ordinary england team to the quarters in the various competition, knows the english culture, has managed in the premiership, has lots of experience.

When he hired Theo Espein, no one had heard of him and he was even younger than the players. But he was a very smart individual. This is probably the direction the new owber will go if the deal is confirmed.

2 names spring to my mind - Joachim Low and Bert van Marjwik (sp).

this. but since Loew is out of the reckoning....Bert is the only one who suits the "Henry" type of manager.

We need to get back to basics, keep it simple, get someone who knows the PL.  Young and progressive with Kenny as Director of Football upstairs.

Hes a superb coach and plays free flowing attacking football but I think for him to come in now with us in such bad shape and his lack of English would be a mistake. He was my choice in preseason as I think with a couple of months to prepare his team and taking in some English lessons he could have done a good job, certainly better than the total garbage we've been watching under Hodgson.

he was fired , that mutual consent stuff is just to save face. Why did he leave then? we finished 7th and the owners decided that wasn't good enough and wanted him gone. They even paid him to go away.

There are several interesting names going around. DiMatteo is a prospect but unproven, Sven would come here, Leow would be great too.

Lets move forward before some want Houllier or Evans (who always finished in the top 4) back.

parchpea wrote:We keep making mistakes because we held on to Benitez too long and then where in a poor position to replace him and took a punt Hodgson which appears to have backfired as well. I felt he was worth a shot but unfortunately he appears to have many of the same traits as the previous manager when we actually need a revolution and a right shake up. Hodgson will probably look back and maybe say he just want brave enough and blew his chance. Anyways its looking like will need another so I guess this time we should go for a younger guy, maybe Rijkaard that type, play some football and totally change the approach which aint happening any time soon under our Roy.

Quoted Parchpea from another post. The response belongs here, so ...

Nice spot Parch, was looking at Rikjaard as an option. Probably one of the better younger coaches out there with an attacking philosophy.

He benefited much from the youth poilicy at Barca when in charge there and perhaps could help with developing it here.

He wasnt fired - and he didnt leave because we finished 7th - if that was the case he would of left as soon as the season finished . He was actually planning for the upcoming season - sorting out deals for Shevly and Wilson - sorting out the pre season friendlies etc until he found out the planned budget and thats when things went south .

Have we gone forwards since he left ?

Well IMO - because it hasnt actually been said from either party - it think its because he realised the owners were not going to invest any money into transfers unless players were sold and i believe he couldnt work with the owners anymore .

If he went because we finished 7th then why didnt he go as soon as season finished .
