In my mind there is a fundamental difference now between the situation involving Rafa, Houllier, Evans and other past managers, and Roy.
In the past when other managers struggled I thought it was proper and sensible to be patient with the manager and to give him time.
The reason for this is because with past managers the club and fans invested a lot of capital in a new project with the manager.
The situation is fundamentally different with Roy. There is no new long term project, there are no long term plans. Lets not delude ourselves here: with the ownership situation as it is there can be no long term project. The truth is that without investment in players the team is in long term decline and the best any manager can do at the moment is to try to keep us reasonably competitive, try to keep our heads above water and with an extraordinary amount of luck be in with an outside chance of qualifying for the CL (IMO, the best possible scenario at the moment).
No one expected Roy to perform miracles and have us challenging for honours, but the minimum expected was that he'd steady the ship and try to maximise the resources he has got. This is a short term task, at the most two seasons, most likely just one, but so far he has failed miserably to do so. Not only have the results been bad, but the performances have been even worse and there is no indication that we are likely to see an improvement any time soon.
Therefore as I have seen it Roy has failed in this task and should be relieved of his duties immediately. He never had the support of the majority of the fans and the crowd are likely to turn against him in a serious way now.
