Mash is a simple porteño lad, I bet he struggles to read and write.  He made a big mistake last night but in his little head he thinks he did the right thing to get the managers attention - he went on strike.

Once a binman, always a binman.

Obviously he's trying to force his transfer to Barca ... But £12m is a pisstake!!
I would rather see him rot away in the reserves then sell him on the cheap to them feckers.

The latest on Mascherano .... Liverpool Echo

Image
LIVERPOOL’S rain-soaked supporters who made the trip to Eastlands were let down big time last night.

Not by those weary players in red who trudged off at the final whistle having been comprehensively out-thought, out-battled and out-played by an impressive Manchester City side.

But by one man still on the Anfield payroll who decided to duck out of a vital clash with the club likely to provide the greatest threat to the Reds’ hopes of reclaiming their top four status.

Javier Mascherano has made no secret of the fact he wants out and Liverpool’s position has been crystal clear from the moment he met Roy Hodgson for the first time with his agent in tow at Melwood last month and demanded a move.

The Reds don’t want to sell but will reluctantly grant Mascherano his wish if the price is right.

In the absence of any bids, Hodgson has been pressing on with Mascherano as part of his plans.

For his part the Argentina captain’s professionalism had been admirable with his heroic performance against Arsenal on the opening weekend a reminder of how much he would be missed if a deal is done.

But all that changed yesterday. After a derisory offer in the region of £12million from Barcelona, which Liverpool swiftly rejected out of hand, Mascherano made himself unavailable for selection
Hodgson diplomatically said he was left out because “he wasn’t in the right frame of mind”.

But after having his head turned by the Catalan giants, Mascherano effectively downed tools.

With the transfer deadline looming, the 26-year-old is clearly trying to force the Reds’ hand.

But in doing so he let down all those supporters who he has always claimed he’s so proud to play for.

Mascherano owed it to those who finance his hefty salary with their hard-earned cash to keep fighting for the cause until Liverpool informed him a deal was agreed.

A bit of payback from a player who was stuck in West Ham Reserves and his career going nowhere fast before the Reds snapped him up.

His insistence that his only desire to move on was because of his family’s failure to settle on Merseyside earned some sympathy on the Kop.

That went out of the window yesterday when he turned his back on his team-mates and the fans.

To rub salt into Liverpool’s wounds, Mascherano was sorely missed on a dismal evening.
When Hodgson admitted afterwards that Roberto Mancini’s side “took control of the game”, it was an admission that the Reds lost the battle in the middle of the park.

Lucas Leiva has made great progress over the past 12 months but he was left chasing shadows last night against City’s central midfield trio of Yaya Toure, Nigel de Jong and Gareth Barry.

Liverpool needed a physical presence to stamp their authority on proceedings but they didn’t have one.

In truth there was a gulf in class between the two sides.

Hardly surprising considering Liverpool’s side cost less to assemble than the £90million of talent sat warming Manchester City’s bench, including £70million worth of strikers in Emmanuel Adebayor, David Silva and Jo.

Money might not be able to buy success but it certainly helps and Sheikh Mansour was on hand to witness what a £1billion investment gets you these days.

Liverpool’s worst league defeat at the hands of City for 73 years hurt, but Mascherano’s decision to turn his back on the club cut deeper.

An absolute disgrace I remember a time when players would deem it the ultimate privilege and the pinnacle of their career    to play for this Club ....   :(

That Echo article is spot on.

The little toerag left his team and his manager in the lurch last night knowing that we would have to change tactics as we didn't have the fit personnel to keep to our tried and trusted formation.

I have very little time for any of these players that behave like spoilt little brats when they don't get their own way.
As disappointed as I was when he said he wanted to leave I understood that his family's happiness came first. Yesterdays antics however have changed my opinion and I'd not just let him rot in the reserves, I'd keep his poisonous attitude well away from the club and exclude him altogether. Let him rot away from the club. He's forgotten that LFC made him what he now is, he was nothing when the club rescued him from his miserable spell at West Ham. He owes the club some loyalty by playing to his best ability until Barcelona or Inter come up with a respectable offer.

Javier Mascherano's proposed move to Barcelona is edging closer, with both clubs moving towards a compromise on their respective valuations of the player.

The Catalan giants have now gone public on their interest, and the midfielder has openly expressed his desire to leave Anfield.

It has been reported that an initial bid of £12 million, plus Alexander Hleb, was dismissed out of hand by Liverpool, but Soccernet understands that the first bid was closer to £18 million - though that figure was still some way off Liverpool's £25 million valuation.

A source close to the deal told Soccernet: "Barcelona have offered 22 million euros, and Liverpool have put a price on the player of 30million euros. I believe the magic number is 28 million euros.

"Liverpool surely cannot say no to that figure, and now it's a question of how close to that mark Barcelona are prepared to move, as they know they have to increase their offer."

Through third parties, it is being suggested that Mascherano has already accepted a huge pay rise to move to the Nou Camp, with his £30,000-a-week wages at Anfield leaping to £85,000 a week in Spain.

But it is not simply a question of Mascherano's personal finances, as personal reasons drive his desire to leave England. Liverpool, meanwhile, want to fully realise the economic benefits of the Argentina captain moving on.

"It is now well established that the club are willing to sell him, and actually want to sell him, and the player wants to go because of personal reasons," Soccernet's source explains.

"Javier loves the club, and appreciates that Liverpool bought him for £20 million when he was sitting on the bench at West Ham. He has no problems with the club and in fact, contrary to the impression being given, he has no problem with the new manager. "He likes Hodgson. Hodgson would like the player to stay as he doesn't have a replacement, but the only solution is for the Barcelona deal to go through as quickly as possible. There is no knowing if Javier will play if asked to do so at the weekend.

"Roy Hodgson has been unbelievable in the way he has dealt with this situation. The player is deeply upset that his move to Barcelona has been put in jeopardy by the price being quoted for him, and that he was in no mood to play under the circumstances. The manager has said that under those circumstances it would have been pointless picking him in any case.

"Everyone accepts that it is not the way to go about it, refusing to play, but Javier is adamant he doesn't want to play again for Liverpool and wants to go to Barcelona because of his family."

Mascherano reported for training on Tuesday morning, after Hodgson admitted he had no idea of the player's whereabouts, ahead of Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Eastlands.

I take a different view of this Mascha mess. While I totally disagree with his methods, in truth it should've been expected. To expect a player who as far back as a season ago indicated his desire to leave to continue to play at the same level without visible signs of progress on his wish to leave is not realistic. I hate that he resorted to those methods, but from the moment he indicated to Roy directly his wish to leave, he should never have remained in our plans for any match...
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

So from where would you have got the cash to buy a replacement?

And are you saying we should continue to pay out a massive monthly salaries and interest on his 18 million transfer fee despite the fact we need him to play but you seem to accept that he doesnt feel like it any more?

And we say Rafas man management was bad!

Mash will leave soon enough and it will be resolved, these situations have only one ending when a player refuses to play. Football clubs let players and agents dominate them so much and thats what I find hard to understand. Its way beyond time they started writing in very strict terms and conditions into the contracts to ensure it is almost impossible for footballers to control situations in this way.

Agree 100%.

Strange that Platini doesn't include it in his plans? ???
