JAVIER MASCHERANO - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby TarnRed » Tue Aug 24, 2010 9:25 am

One thing I will add regarding Mascherano is that on many a forum he has been the player that alot of people have listed as the player that would be easiest to replace - last night showed the total opposite, if Mascherano had been playing the City players wouldn't have been able to control midfield as they did as Mascha would have been all over them like a rash, the result might not have been any different but I can confidently say that time and space would have been at a minimum.

He's gone if Barca cough up the dough, and who could blame him?

Lando mate, he has refused, you can read between the lines in Roy's comments and Roy has been diplomatic about it. Its an insult to the club, fans and to the shirt.

Can you blame him though? The clubs going no where dont be suprised to see a few more leave by the time the transfer window shuts. And no replacments brought in.
He can win things at Barca he wont be winning nothing here.

Right so let me get this right.

Because the club is in a predicament he has the right to hold the club to ransom, refuse to play until we sell him?

Does he fuck.

We should be imposing the maximum two week wage fine the FA allows if a player goes on strike. Then if the valuation isn't met (£22.5m at least) he stays, if needs be in the reserves.

No one player is bigger than this club, regardless of the mess were in.

Quite frankly I couldn't give a flying fuck whether he can win things elsewhere, he is a contracted Liverpool player and it remains so until the day he signs another contract.

Totally agree about fining him his wages, but he has wanted out for 2 seasons now he doesnt want to be here so let him go and not for a penny less than 20 odd million.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

You got it right SCS, he must honor the contract as he is still a Liverpool player, he breached his contract yesterday

The quicker Poulsen gets match fit the better. He may not be as good as Mascherano but he is surely better than Lucas.

so...in such circumstances, the club would usually fine the player right?

pokster wrote:All these discussions for a 'replacement' for Mascherano is meaningless as Roy Hodgson has already got Poulsen to replace him. We need to look at other positions for players. For example, a left back and maybe a winger or a striker.

Agree with this, except I wouldn't say maybe a striker, I would say DEFINITELY (and at least one) striker along with a new LB. Also a winger would be nice, but we've been crying out for out-and-out wingers for ages now, and for some reason it never seems to happen for us (they're often expensive I guess).

RE Mascherano he should definitely be fined two weeks wages if true about the strike. Also Roy/the club is right in holding out for 20+ million for him, as we payed 18 million for him and Barca themselves sold Yaya Toure for more.

The Mascherano situation is borne out of the mess that football is in with regard to wages, money, panic in the boardrooms and the increasing rise of player power.  Javier Mascherano is an employee of Liverpool Football Club and most certainly should be fined the maximum two-weeks wages for refusing to play when asked to, i.e. fulfill his contractual obligation.  He's being petulant - not because he wants away; that's fine if that's how he feels, but because of his reaction to the fact that his employer will not sell him at a fraction of his market value.  Tough Javier.  It's not personal.  It's business.

For me, I really think it's important the club refuse to budge on this until they get exactly what they want out of it.  What kind of precedent does it set to let an overpaid footballer act like a spoilt brat and refuse to play or train until they get their way.  Simply cannot happen.  And I don't believe will.  I'm so fed up of footballers and the way the game is run now.  I've said it before - I really wouldn't mind if we spent two or three seasons going back to our youth and bringing through players to create a great team.  of course, that's probably very naieve in today's game as we'd probably never recover.  The truth is we need a horribly wealthy owner and just become like the rest, I suppose.  Man City make me sick.

If the deal doesn't happen at minimum £18m upfront + Hleb or £25m cash (he's the best in his position in the world, ffs, and captain of Argentina; why shouldn't we get that much?) and he refuses to play, let him rot in the reserves.  Poulsen will do the job.

he should go round there and drag him to training by his ear.

A complete slap in the face to the club that saved his career as a European footballer.

True...
really really disappointed if he did refuse to play without having any injuries. LFC is what made him captain of his country (well... a little help from crazy maradona too... but you know what I'm saying).

After seeing how he handled this situation last week vs Arsenal and applauding his committment to the cause I am now sickened by his behaviour. Refusing to play is a f*ckin disgrace and he should be docked wages. Apparently he is aware that there is a magic figure that must be met before we will accept it. Going on strike when Barca offer 12M is a joke!! If they come back with 20M then maybe.

I do not wish for an unhappy player to be in our ranks and think that the 20M would seriously help Roy plug some of the gaps evident during last night's performance (LB, Width and support striker).

If have to sell him for 12 million, i rather he rots in the reserves for 1 season...and then proceed to sell him for that pric next summer.

he will then need at least 1 full season to get really match fit .... lets screw up his career like he screwed up this match for us.

If it is true that he refused to play and it is a big, fat IF......

Then he should be treated like the scumbag his behaviour suggests he is...... Let him rot in the reserves. Fine him the max that we can and take Barca to a tribunal for tapping up.
