Yet dispite all the stories about Poulson here are some facts:

2009/10 (all competitions)

Poulson: 39 appearances - 5 yellow cards - 0 red cards

Masherano: 39 appearances -11 yellow cards - 2 red cards

2008/09  (all competitions)

Poulson: 24 appearances - 3 yellow cards - 0 red cards

Masherano: 38 appearances -9 yellow cards - 0 red cards

no - but neither has poulson.

a fan ran onto the pitch and tried to attack the referee - that was why the game was called off. Poulson's challenge only resulted in a red card in the game in June 2007 - which was also the last time he was sent off.

It was the sending off that triggered the fan running onto the pitch - sent off for punching a Swedish player - his actions indirecting resulted in game getting abandoned

The very latest from Tonight's  Liverpool Echo
One piece of business that should be completed at some point in the next 24 hours, though, is the signing of Denmark international Christian Poulsen.

Liverpool and Juventus have agreed a fee for the midfielder, who was given permission to withdraw from the Denmark squad that faces Germany tonight.

Poulsen underwent a medical at Melwood yesterday and his agent Joern Bonnesen was with him on Merseyside to go over some contractual issues.

Those talks will continue today but no problems are envisaged and the transfer is expected to go through in time for Poulsen to be considered to play against Arsenal.

I will be well pleased if he can be available for the Arsenal game .... give us a good chance to run the rule over his combative nature and how effective it can prove to be ......... fingers crossed

sorry you can not attribute a fan attacking a referee and casueing the game to be abanded to a punch thrown on the pitch by a player. There's been much worse on a football field with no fans running onto pitches.

Its the fan's fault, the stadiums fault, but you can't say that he was at fault for the game being called off. If anything I'd say the ref did - the fan was attacking the ref, not the player. The fan was :censored: off at the ref. Yes the ref sent poulson off for the punch, but the punch was a supposedly a result of Rosenburgs provatations. So i blame rosenberg!!   :p

Punching a player is wrong and stupid, but he didn't casue the game to be stopped. a fan did.

besides it was one moment of madness.

Poulson hasn't been sent off for his club for over 6 years

Signing?  Sorry - I know there's been a lot of speculation and even talks with the player but ... there's absolutely nothing about this on the official site or the BBC pages or anywhere I can find.  Can someone post the link for a confirmation?

Well said.  It would be the equivalent of dismissing Masch on the basis of his rush of blood moment at Old Trafford.

I don't know all that much about Poulson but the amount of criticism he's been getting for so-called goonish behaviour strikes me as a bit narrow.  I'm sure there's a lot more to the player than that and your stats have shown that to be the case.  From our last match I kind of suspect that Hodgson has the idea of sitting Gerrard in CM with Cole in the hole ahead of him.  If Poulson can come in and do a Didi-esque job of minding the shop when Stevie ventures forward, I'll be pleased.  As many have said, we could use some steel in our midfield as well, so I don't mind the fact that the lad likes a tackle.  He's a veteran campaigner, as well, so he should be pretty savvy about when to stick the foot in and when not to.

good, and well balanced post  :nod  blaming Poulson for the fan's misbehavior is clutching at straws.

Well lets see what happens when he arrives - if people think he is the next step up for us in improvement then lets hope your right .

i dont think he is the next step up for us. I think he's a stop gap to add midfield strength and bite when mash leaves because we cant afford anything better

We all hope that he can come in and do a "didi-esque" job and improve the balance of the side, but we'll have to wait and see

I dont think anyone has stated he will be an improvement on Mascherano or indeed a step up ... but he will provide excellent protection for our defenders whilst allowing   other players the freedom to play their natural game  .......
We're skint .....doesn't sound nice I know, but nevertheless its the truth and the manager is trying to procure good players with the sparse amount of funds being made available to him and I think so far he is doing a sterling job
