As a back up he's OK. would prefer to spend less on him, but he'll be a useful back up player.

Useful backup? only thing is that we've got useful back-ups in Darby and Kelly which we don't need to pay a single cent...

Darby and Kelly arn't good enough for the premier league, at least not yet. Same goes for Spearing.

These young players are never gonna be good enough if we don't try them... Pacheco's never gonna be good enough if we don't play him...

kelly's essentially a centre back anyway so he should be used as cover there. he can play right back as he did against lyon last season but that's not his long term future or his natural position.

Totally disagree on Kelly.

the transfer fee of Luke Young will make the transfer fee of the Greek look like an absolute bargain...

I agree, but Carragher played at LB, RB, DM and CB long before settling in as our first choice CB. Kelly has the footballing ability and defensive nous to do a job at RB. In time he might be able to make the permanent transition to CB, like Carragher.

When you take into account wages he'll cost us well over £5m. How often will he need to play and what sort of job will he have to do to justify paying that?

Why is this about Roy? We seem to be forever missing the point, unless we are saying that atbe, Roy would still sign Young given other options...
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

i agree entirely but the main issue i have is that the kid has severe fitness issues. if he gets another inury we will be looking at having one right back and one left back at the club.

cant believe we are seriously gonna sign him.
dont care if it's just for the squad,he just isnt good enough to play for villa and now he's good enough to play for us.???
i would much rather see the cash spent more wisely in better areas rather than line the pockets of over the hill players especially when we dont need him.

Kelly's natural position is on the football pitch.  When he plays as a RB he doesn't play it like a CB playing RB, he plays it like a dynamic, buccaneering wingback capable of putting in excellent crosses or even having a cheeky shot at goal.

Which are ole oracle?

Oh I wouldn't know ask the high and mighty all seing being SouthCoastShankly

Seriously what are you going on about? You're 2 sandwiches short of picnic.

I have never claimed Young would be a good signing, instead I highlighted the fact that if Hodgson thinks he can offer something to the squad, even in terms of backup, then I am willing to show good faith.

As I said earlier, before you started trolling, if we all showed faith in the McAllister signing then we should offer the same if Hodgson signs Young.
