Just hacked and got sent off? You can do better than that.

Didn;t rate him last season, you cold tell he was unhappy and wanted to leave... just my view, I do get ultra biased when a tw@t of a player we've got just keep harping on about wanting out

Seems to be a bit of a trait these days with players wanting out of Liverpool. Doesn't really make them a tw"t, though, unless they open their gobs. And you're in the minority in thinking that Mascherano wasn't one of our best players last season. Reina was our best.

Bye Masch.  You're great at what you do but far from irreplaceable.  And with your attitude ... £25-£30m will do very nicely.
Don't wany ANYONE at the club who doesn't want to be here fighting for the team.  Can't stand the attitude of most modern footballers.  Most important thing we can do this year is get a team spirit going - nobody hanging around on ridiculous wages moaning and whining.
The only player in my recent memory who left the club that was directly very BAD for us was Xabi.

Work what one out? He said himself he wanted away, only last summer it was Barca. What's to work out? His agent has said today that he agreed last season to give us one more year. No working out required on this one, infact I could use the headscratch smiley myself because you've baffled me with that question.

I said he was arguably our best player last season. I never mentioned anything to do with his mindset.

I've highlighted the bit I was referring to.

don't think I am in the minority, but each to his own.
You obviously rate him a lot higher than me. Itd be great if he wanted to play for us, coz he is that good, but last season we all knew he wanted out... you might be confused with season before maybe?  :;):

Anyone who follows the global game properly will be hard put to name a better player in his role in the last 2 years...

Essien and Yaya Toure.

How could either of those be considered better than Masch based on the last 2 years? ???

roy don't take no shít from no one

"Yes, he wants to leave the club," confirmed Hodgson when asked about Mascherano. "He has made that perfectly clear. I think he wanted to leave a year ago. He wants to leave now but he is contracted to Liverpool so whether he leaves or not will be our decision.

"He is a Liverpool player and will continue to be treated as a Liverpool player until such a day arrives when he no longer is. The mere fact that the player is a little bit unhappy with his situation and would prefer to leave does not necessarily mean that he will do.

"It disappoints me but it is not unusual. I think in every club throughout the world there are players playing in the team who would prefer to leave. Some are allowed to, some are not allowed to. Mascherano is a Liverpool player with a two-year contract. I expect him to honour that contract until the day comes when the club decides to accept an offer for his services."

I've always rated as high Mascherano as Alonso so this departure is a massive football blow to me.

'OoooOoOOooo we've got the best midfield of the world' wasn't an exageration when it was sung, IMO, so losing yet another axis of that midfield is something awful.

Of that course with 25M you can expect to mount a good midfield, but for that you have to be spot on, and in football that isn't easy. At some point 2 or 3 years ago I couldn't understand the notion of changing the midfield because with Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso all was sorted out for a good while. The striker position, was solved with Torres. But instead of improving the remaining positions, we thought of changing the part of midfield that Liverpool didn't really need to fix.

This is the last chapter of a very dissapointing process.

I simply have words of gratefulness and admiration towards Mascherano's football.

It's a funny thing that Sabre, isn't it. I completely agree with that comment but what words would you have for Mascherano's commitment, gratitude and loyalty to Liverpool? Considering he was in some sort of hell with West Ham before he joined us my word would begin with a 'C'. Typical footballer though.

I understand your point of view.

But in some cases, with latin players, they simply don't click in the English lifestyle.

It has happened with Turkish guys in Spain, and sometimes with Brazilians.

Some players do really miss the samba or the latin culture. In cases of being unable to adapt completely, I tend to shrug, as it's inevitable to find these cases.

In those cases I ask professionality and good work in their football when they're playing for the club. And Mascherano has given that to Liverpool with a good football service, and Mascherano has proven to be a good investment for the club, not a waste of money.

I admire the bits of the last paragraph, not him not being to fully be happy in England. More even so when it was rumoured that affected his family. Those things are tough to fight against.

Fair enough Sabre, I think I'm just annoyed that we're losing another of our true world class players (after Alonso last season) and with my supporters hat on I think that everyone who doesn't want to spend the rest of their career at Liverpool is a c'unt. With my more rationale hat on you make perfect sense. Didn't settle; family didn't settle wants to move back to the Spanish life-style; continued to play well despite being unhappy. Fair enough.

Can't even stare at Insua in the other tower anyway!

He was class. We've always knew he wanted to leave but he got his head down and got on with Liverpool. He could have demanded to leave in the same summer as Alonso but didn't. This was always expected it was just a matter of time. I love watching him on the pitch though, his no nonsense attitude is a bit of a dying breed these days and I loved it
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Throw out some English names:    Parker, Cattermole, Muamba (at the least it would stop him from man-marking Gerrard twice a year)

Some others:  Javi Martinez, Ever Banega, Sami Khedira, Arturo Vidal, Miguel Veloso (could also fill in at Left Back!), Riccardo Montolivo, Daniele De Rossi (probably will never leave Rome, although Aquilani did), Toulalan, Hernanes (was way overhyped 2 years ago, his club had him play out of position for a while, starting to come back into form as a box-to-box midfielder

If we have to save money, surely one of the Madrid Diarras has to be available, and I don't see how they could ask for too much.  Maurice Edu a young American at Rangers (went to University together), looked good in the world cup.  Strong in the tackle, not spectacular on the ball, but composed.  Another American option would be Michael Bradley, he also had a good world cup and offers a lot (understands the game well, aggressive, strong in the tackle, can create and score goals (scored 16 league goals in Holland one year from midfield)

If we had a bunch of cash, another player similar, probably even better than Veloso is Fiorentina's Vargas.  CM isn't his normal position, but he can really play anywhere. Brings so much to the team both in attack and in defense.  He is just a great left footed footballer, and we have a serious lack of them around.

And lastly, if we are really short on funds, Tymoshchuk could be useful.  Another that could play both DM and LB.  And he has great Europa League experience :D

I swear Joe your knowledge of Worldwide football is fecking unbelieveable. Not only do you know all our players from under 9 upwards, you know every senior player in Europe and Worldwide practically.

If there isn't a club somewhere who could use your encyclopedic knowledge in their scouting departement I'd be amazed, and I really mean that.
