Yeah now Barca know we have to sell him so we could end up getting less as they have the initiative.

I think he has two years left on his contract so if we wait one season his value will half. I'd happily take £20-£25 million. He has wanted out for a season and is replaceable.

I am sure he would much rather not be sitting on his erse all season though when he is desperate for a move.

I honestly dont think he is in as good a position as wht most of you are making out.

He doesn't hold the best hand, the buying club do. Point is that the buying club are now in a position of strength, they know the players wants to leave and has a short term contract.

All Roy needed to say was “We are not looking to sell Javier. He is on holiday after his world cup execrations and I will speak to him when he reports back for pre-season training in a few weeks”

Maybe but Ben do you really want a player back who clearly doesn't want to be here? He could mope around all season and his attitude could affect morale in the dressing room ect... im sure Barca/Inter will pay whatever it takes.

I would :censored: Mash off in a heartbeat. Phone off, not returning calls to his employers for christ sakes. This lad should be thankful we took him from West Ham ressies and got him back on the football map ffs but no he chooses to be awkward and arsey just like he is on the park. Hes a destroyer theres no question but offers nothing else on the pitch aside from giving the refs jip and weve won fuk all with him and neither did the Argies with him in their multi talented side. Hes another bigshot player we can do without so take the money and buy a lad that wants to play for Liverpool and is grateful hes at such a magnificent football club. Sweet jesus these prima donna lads really are not what we need to move forward, his attitude is shocking.

Agree 100% parchpea. Many rate what he does, but he also gives away too many free kicks and cards - 11 yellow and two red last season. Sometimes it might be better just to stand off and force play backwards, it's almost like confrontational football with a challenge made and you either come out with the ball, don't or give away a free-kick. For where he does that I'd rather he didn't dive in so much, it's too far out for a shot to turn into a goal but close enough that a free kick will be dangerous ie I'd rather let them have a shot than a free kick so stay on your feet and don't make challenges each and every time.

Perhaps he just needs to calm down a bit, especially with his attitude to refs. He reacts to everything in a schoolboy manner, incredulation at free kicks awarded or cards shown. Just STFU and get on with it, we're better off without.

Personally I think Woy needs to stop quoting to the media. Last thing we really need is potential buyers hearing we can't get in touch with one of our assets.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out Mascherano is in Milan discussing a contract, what with Italy being not too far off a straight line route from South Africa to England
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Oh yea !!!
And Mascs agent would just sit there with his mouth shut ????

Call me stupid but I'd rather have a manager telling it as it is than all this spin and skullduggery we've put up with over the past few years.

If he wants out = then F@ck him ! We've had the :censored: about his Missus being homesick (but Italy or Spain's alright), the knobhead sending-offs, and Christ knows how many needless freekicks. Bleeding Prima Donna !!

Rather him than Torres or Gerrard.

A bad move by Roy.  He has made himself look quite silly and weakened our position as the selling club. Should have kept his mouth shut.

It also shows the football world what tools he and his agent really are.
I'm happy with Roy making it public, lets me know that he has made the effort and shows Masch up as the ingrate he really is.
It also lets would be bidders know that Roy wants to hold on to him and wont be railroaded into getting shut at a knockdown price.
In Roy we trust   :D

I see what you are saying but i would still just do what O'Neill did with Gareth Barry when we were in for him.

Here is the price...you want him pay it, if you dont offer what the asking price is then he stays at LFC.

I think someone will still pay it.

Agree with everyone who says that he is a c'ck of the highest order for the way he has gone about all of this though.

I also think he is better than Owzat is making out, with better options in centre midfield alongside him he is an outstanding player.
Alongside Alonso 2 seasons ago with Gerrard pushed on they were fantastic the 3 of them.
If he was to go to Barcelona with Xavi in there taking the ball of him once he wins it he would show how important he can be to a team.
Tbh i cant see why they wouldnt move heaven and earth for him, they dont need Fabregas at all and have sold Yaya Toure.

Masher has been one of our most important players over the last three seasons and been crucial in pretty much most of our big wins - his impact for the club is vastly underrated by many just as he himself is vastly underrated - he is the best player in the world in his position and loosing him would be a massive blow .

Masherano is a one trick pony and none too bright to boot. He's good at what he does, but is what he does REALLY that important? Does he REALLY offer Liverpool that much?

I know he offers absolutely nothing in attack. That's for sure. During the World Cup Ronnie Whelan called what he does "The Barber", short back and sides. An old footballing term for passing. Short, back and to the sides and he's quite correct. He also gives away too many stupid and un-necesary fouls.

Not only that, he clearly doesn't want to be here. So, what's the point of having him?

He can be replaced.

As for Roy telling it like it is? Good, we know where we stand. And as others have pointed out...set a price and if clubs REALLY rate him, they hand over the shillings for him.
