Have to say I'm quite encouraged by the reports linking Insua and now Lucas with moves away. Players, IMO, who held us back last season and who would be better off moving to clubs more suited to their level; Palermo & Fiorentina sounds about right. £8m would be great business for the two of them.

That means we would need to find two players who can improve on them for 8 mil ?

I would rather have Lucas on the bench than sell him for £4 Mill...

Really? Ok maybe Lucas but even then we are getting ripped off. I would have likes us to give him another season maybe being used in a different way.

And Insua is young, maybe not quite a starter but good backup for sure.

Not necessarily. Certainly we need another LB even if Insua stays, but he doesn't have to cost the earth - full backs usually don't. The loss of Lucas will mean we may need another CM option, but again he needn't cost the earth, or he may be a versatile player, someone like Van Der Vaart who can play left, or in the middle. Either way, removing Lucas from the equation doesn't deplete our squad in any significant way.

Players like van der vaart on their own cost 10 mil upwards and why would he come to a club not in cl ? Yes full backs aren't that expensive but even that guy at Wigan will cost upwards of 6 mil as well . If we loose players we need to replace them with better and that normally costs more and we can't afford that

I suppose this is one of them where I just flatly disagree Bav. If I was a manager I would be hesitant to pay more than £4m for Lucas. The one proviso I would add is that I'd want sell-on clauses as part of both deals, just in case they do well. Argentina don't appear to have many good left backs and the ones they do have won't be playing for much longer. Mainly by virtue of that fact, it isn't beyiond the realms of possibility that Insua gets the nod there in future;we'd be naive not to capitalise on that opportunity.

I don't see Van der Vaart as being obviously beyond our reach because, for one, I think there's a fair chance we may sign a player in the £10m bracket this summer anyway, and certainly if we sell Mascherano; for two, because he hasn't had much game time over in Madrid and weighing up his options he may consider Liverpool a more attractive proposition. We're still quite a good club you know. He might be out of our reach, he might not, we just don't know. I only ever suggested him as an option, though, when there are plenty of other CMs out there who are better than Lucas and who are likely to be within our price range, and furthermore would want to play for this club. However, I don't currently deem another CM option as essential, but preferable. Aquilani, Gerrard and Mascherano have a lot of quality between them that I'm quite sure Roy would do well with.

On Figueroa, I'm confident we would be able to afford him even at £6m or more, and I certainly hope he would prefer playing his football at Liverpool Football Club instead of Wigan Atheltic.

If we can manage to get a player in the van der vaart bracket then I will be both amazed and delighted - even more so if he is 10 mil

Never been Lucas's biggest fan (or critic) but I'd deffo wait and see what happens with Masch before entertaining early summer offers for Lucas. It wouldn't make much sense to flog the lad for £5-6 million because I don't think we'll find anything much better for that sort of money. All depends on Hodgson's plans for Stevie, if he sticks him back in the centre of the park (I think he will) then selling Lucas and bringing in a player like Scharner becomes more feasible. I'd prefer the club to wait a while though or at least to have someone lined up to come in on the back of any sale.

ok so you're telling me you want lucas to play an anchoring role in front of the defense??are u freakin kiddin me? he'd make our defense look like Sh1t ... you think he actually has the capabilities to run around and win the ball back everytime we lose possession? and clubs are willing to pay £5-6 million for lucas only because he played a lot of games for us last season not because he has any footballing skills, i bet woy can run faster than him

Lucas has never EVER been good enough for LFC. If we get a 6 million bid, i'll drive him to the airport myself.
