I've looked for a suitable thread in which to give a non emotional different perspective on the going's on of the last few days;
Rafa has gone, i am neither elated nor dispondant over this decision.
It is well known fact that Rafa had lost a goodly proportion of the Dressing Room, especially with the "so-called" Senior Members of the Squad, If he had stayed, I firmly believe that those "Senior Pro's" would have ALL walked, we're talking Gerrard,Torres,Mascherano,Riera,Benayoun, basically the backbone of the side.
My firm belief is that in Appointing Kenny in interim control of the day to day running of thing's we as a Football Club stand a better chance of keeping those players on board for the forthcoming campaign.
My reasoning behind this is, Kenny is THE MOST respected individual in the entire club, the players all have the utmost respect for him as a Footballing Man and as an individual and trust his judgement.
Kenny has always had the best intentions of the Club at heart, I don't believe for one minute he has taken on this new found responsibility lightly, let's face it he doesn't need it, but wants to do the best for the Club, this is only conjecture at present on my own behalf, but i think that his own agenda/remit is to keep the squad together until a "New Man" is Appointed, and for the reasons stated in the paragraph above, who better? indeed who else stands a better chance of pursuading the likes of Torres/Gerrard to stay?
So let's see What and more importantly Who we've got Player wise for the forthcoming Campaign;
We've heard today from Pepe that Rafa going although personally hurtful to him means nothing as far as moving away from Anfield is concerned. Johnson has another three years left on his contract, going nowhere, Agger a similar amount of time, Carra, well Carra IS Liverpool he's going nowhere, i think that we all know we need a left back.
Moving into Midfield, probably Kenny's biggest task is to pursuade Mascher to stay with an improved contract, in my opinion, 1) It's Kenny who's going to be asking him to put pen to paper, 2) Rafa & the personal differences have gone.
Then it's the $64K question of Stevie G, my heart still says he'll stay, my head says otherwise, Madrid and Maureen are calling, but a Madrid under Maureen is a completely different prospect than the free flowing football of the Galactico's of years gone by, it's more a negative, defensive, type of Football that has seen our Captain so shackled and frustrated under the previous regime, would he want to uproot his family and move to play the same style of Football. His Body Language on the Pitch this season has betrayed the fact that this type of Football is not for him, I hope for once my heart rules my head and he stays.
Then we have Babbel,Yossi & Riera, I truly believe a different Manager can get more out of these players, I've always felt certainly in the case of the first two that they where square pegs in round holes, right footed players playing on the left, What are they going to do apart from cut inside, so predictable, if they were played in their right position i'm pretty sure you'd see a lot more out of them, simplistic thinking, yes of course it is, but let's not forget this is FOOTBALL, it's a simple game!
As for Riera, a hard working no nonsense (at times under the previous regime) left sided Midfielder, i'm not saying he's a world beater but season before last he showed his quality to the squad, under contract, another who could still do a job.
Up Front, again a big ask, again under a long term contract, again totally respects Kenny, Torres, El Nino, he won't go to another Premiership club, his words not mine, he won't be allured by Maureen & Madrid, doubt he'll go with Pep to Barca, the Italian League, well Inter's out if Rafa get's the job as is widely publicised, that leaves who to join, who are better than where he is now (and i'm talking purely from a footballing point of view, forget twit & tw@t) no-one.
Kuyt; Billed when we aquired him as the new Van Nistelrooy, banged in goal after goal in Dutch Football, still banging them in for Holland now, i'm not his biggest fan but again play him in the position we bought him for in the first place, let him harrie & upset defenses, let him do all the chasing across the eighteen yard line, use his unwavering work ethic as the first line of defense.
Fringe Players;
Lucas,Aquilani,Skrtel,The Greek,Insua,N'Gog,Pacheco,Cavalieri,El-Zhar,Degen,
Where to start; of these i'd keep only Skrtel,Aquilani & Pacheco, Nemeth should be back this Summer, as will Darby & Spearing and bring young Gulacsi in as Reserve Keeper,
I'd sell the rest giving in my opinion £8-12M as a transfer kitty as a start.
So after reading all this... what's the point i hear screaming at me from my keyboard & monitor;
Well it's simple, we field Hopefully a team of;
Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger
Babbel Gerrard Mascherano Riera
Kuyt Torres
That's a team of ten i know, but TEN Internationals, with two in Aquilani & Yossi on the bench, with different Tactic's ie the free flowing football we know we can play "unshackled" as we witnessed for the first five month's of 2009 that can again qualify for Champion's League Football next year.
We would've needed five or six players under Rafa cause the other's wouldn't play for him, under a different thinking regime, one which will bring out the best in what we've got, i think we need two or three with proven premiership quality, combined with what we sell for even our measly budget should compensate for that with a shrewd buyer, which brings me onto my last point;
Manager:
I'm not letting Sentimentality rule my head, I hope, and as i said this is supposed on the most part to be a non emotional post, but after watching LFC for the last 37 years, THE most exciting, forward thinking, attack minded Football i think i've ever witnessed on a week in week out basis was KD's team of the late eighties, I for one think that he'd get the best out of the players mentioned above with two to three addition's for however long he took the reins for!
My "Fantasy League" wish is KD to take the reins, however my logical thought is that if KD can keep the Players together, consolidate and extend "key player contracts" and give the incoming Manager the best possible Playing Staff, then who better then Hiddink to take over and Consolidate Champions League Qualification until we rid ourselves of the Vermin within, despite what the "so-called" experts in the Press say about the up-coming Teams in the Premiership that side would be more than good enough.
So Finally Rafa has gone, (I can't say long live the King, as he is still there & will hopefully live up to his nickname in the forthcoming Month's) I will however say a big thankyou to him for all that he achieved, he proved he was one of us and he will never walk alone.
My Final point, hopefully, i'm proved right about Kenny, his personal powers of pursuation re players and that we end up with a playing staff for 2010-2011 with no key emissions, i'm wholely expecting to be "shot down" for my views, I guess they could be described as "rose tinted" , however even twit & tw@t aren't that stupid that they'd sell the family silver, at this late stage even they know to get anywhere near they're ridiculous valuation of the club, it has to be a "going concern" that's why i'm positive about the forthcoming campaign, and of Champions League Qualification, after all, We Are Liverpool!
