Carragher, Finnan, Hamann, Babbel, Tanner.

Great joke  ???

why have you put that emoticon when you put

see below

Because it was obviously a joke
''I know Mourinho likes to tell people that he is the European champion manager but he's not now. That belongs to Benitez. '' Jamie Carragher

Whelan was underestimated in his day.  Recent times? Obviously Carra, Hamman and last season Finnan who was superb.

Yes, Red Indian, Ronnie Whelan was greatly unsung. I'd read an interview where John "Digger" Barnes briefly compared Whelan and Steven Gerrard. Where Gerrard has in abundance strength, stamina and lung busting abilities, Whelan is so intelligent that he did so much effectively with econimical effort and if Gerrard can acquire Whelan's strengths, he'd be a complete midfielder.

If the period is the past 10 years, the candidates are Carra and Hamann who are still here and Babbel during the treble winning year. Gary Mac can't be considered as an unsung hero, because he does get his share of credit because his contributions tend to be more obvious - like the telling pass which led to goal or his goal conversion from free-kicks.

Carragher and Gary Mac, I agree with those two but all i can say is Heskey played a massive part in us winning the trebble, but he got slated after that.

going back a bit more than ten years - nigel spackman, even ray houghton.
in a side full of in your face talent like john barnes, peter beardsley and steve mcmahon those two blokes kept the opposition under pressure and ran miles for the cause.
nigel used to wear a headband in his liverpool days.
