Knowing Rafa we'll sell Alonso and buy players of the quality of Dossena and Lucas.

Is Alonso Basque?? then surely it should be Barca and not RM that is his dream move or am I getting myself confused again. I never did devote too much time into figuring out that whole ETA thing.

I am a bit bewildered why no one else is p1ssed off why Alonso has waited until now to make his feelings clear and can we make our minds up here. Is Alonso an excellent player or not. If he is excellent, which I personally half agree with then surely the mighty Real Madrid can cough up an extra £8 million for him or have they p1ssed away too much already this season. Is Kaka and Ronaldo really worth more than double to the team than Alonso?

I totally agree with him putting his family before the job though but fail to see what the hell the relevance of that is?

If all the paper talk is true then Alonso is trying to screw not only Rafa but the whole club and I for one will never forgive him for that.

BTW All modern day footballers are money grabbing but then so would I be if someone offered me a handsome years salary per week.

I don't think it has any legal ramifications Heimdall. It just shows that the player is so determined to leave that he is willing to lose his "loyalty" bonus.

I know a few will admire him for trying to get RS some money out of the deal (if he is ), but he has been a Liverpool player for 5 years now and he shouldn't be robbing us to help another club.

Still even if we take a knock because of the sell on clause, we will still get a lot more for him than we did last season. I just hope Rafa has someone already lined up.

oh ok so the club can still turn round and say, look you have two choices either put in a bloody good effort for at least half a year or rot in the reserves scumbag!  :D

Would you rather sell Masch or Alonso? Who is more vital to the team? ???

Even if he hated it here, Xabi is the type of person/player to still give his all in games. We saw that last season.

He has to perform as this is the world cup year..surely the lad wouldnt want to miss the bus to suid afrika

...and who bought Alonso in the first place?  :suspect:

You never know, Rafa could go out and buy a player as terrible as Torres or Mascherano. However will we cope?

He absolutely must have S@int. Lets face it, it's hardly the most shocking revelation in the World and we may be on the verge of losing the other central mid as well, so surely Rafa will have a couple of "options" and perhaps even a "possibility" or two under his belt.

I know some (not me of course  :eyebrow ) will hark back to Keanegate where we sold a player without a replacement but that won't happen here. Rafa has shown with rotation and playing a more expansive style that he learns from his mistakes, and my money will actually be on us signing a replacement BEFORE either Alonso or Masherano leaves. It won't be a stright swap either, it will be a much more attack minded central midfielder I think.

It'll be someone who can pass it but not quite as well as Xabi, but who gets forward beyond the play and scores with headers and tap ins occasionally. Probably an International player who isn't a kid, a good proven senior pro. Kind of like a Gareth Barry sort of player I should think  (just kidding but it will be that sort of player).

The only real problem with that is that no one will want to buy him for £25million after 6 months on the bench. So the club is gambling big time if they don't sell an unhappy player.

Very true. Nobody wanted to buy him for 15 million last Summer after 3 years on the pitch, so six months on the bench is hardly going to push up his value.

No, if he wants to go then we should sell him. Fortunately, him wanting to go is coinciding with the period in his five year Liverpool career when his transfer value is at its highest. If it's over 25 million quid it's a good deal IMHO and we should take it. No players in exchange mind or any of that old b0ll0cks, pure hard cash.

If a player wants to go let him. We can get enough money to replace him and buy players for other positions too.

A Gareth Barry type player would be just what we need now mate. What worries me is what wages even an average player will want.

Yeah a little more attacking flair wouldn't come amiss (if we keep Masch ) and if they can get a decent number of goals too, even better.

I still think we may finish up with Gerrard moving back, but not before Christmas.
