Xabi will hand in a transfer request today, so that RS get their 5 million worth.

Oh that's nice so Xabi manages to screw us out of even more money. :no

Well I guess Xabi really believes in and loves the club then eh? When will you guys realise that players these days are just money grabbing vain pompus ignorant @rseholes. There is no honour now amongst footballers, or at least its very very rare, especially with these foreign imports.

Your judging Xabi on what is being said in the press .

Xabi has done nothing but give his all for this club and now your slagging him off due to paper talk ? where you praising him last year when he kept a dignified silence when the club were trying to flog him and after that he played with his heart once again last season .

Also if he does want to move how is he money grabbing ? is he wanting to go to get more money or is it because he wants to go back to spain ? and how is it money grabbing when he may want his old club to get a decent amount of money ?

His old club got a good deal of money when we bought him GYBS, do you really think Alonso gives two craps about his old club, if he did then I find it strange he wants to go to RM.

Yes I am basing this all on paper talk and if the papers are wrong then I retract it but if they are right then Alonso gets elevated to even more of a c0ck status than Oilslick Ronaldo.

Do you think it's ok that Alonso has waited until now to make his feeling known, why didn't he say it right at the start?

Im sorry but show me where Xabi has made his feelings known ?

Show me a quote from him ?

Also please explain how he is mone y grabbing tw.at

Im sorry Heimdall but i fail to see what xabi has done wrong so far .

Masch due back today his wife is due to give birth in Argentina so she wont be travelling back with him, look at nando they got the baby delievered early so he could get back to training and back to Liverpool with wife and child.

Some players need to take a leaf out of his book, what a fine gent of a man he is.

Erm because he should have been back at training today, and hes not. Arebloa is back in Liverpool though.

And I trust Tony barrett more than anyone he is very, very close to Rafa.

Alonso is on his Honeymoon..he had special time off!
a bit premature thinking hes off!

Well if he's going to go, then we obviously want one figure and they want to pay a quite different amount. Unfortunately, the timing is kind of on their side in that if we are going to sell him and buy a credible replacement before the season gets going, we need to do the first part of the deal (selling him) fairly quick. At some point, we are going to have to consider that if we do hold out for a few more weeks for an extra 3 or 4 million, we may potentially be shafting opurselves in terms of buying a replacement.

Personally I think if they've offered 27 million I'd negotiate off that. I don't think it's a mile off the right price, (it's a lot nearer than 35 mill IMHO) and if we can squeeze a couple of mill on top I'd do the deal. To be totally honest if he wants away, if push were to come to shove I'd take the 27 mill.

He's off Barry, if Barrett says it take it as the truth.

Although Im sad that Alonso may be leaving, the situation isnt as bad as some people make out.

We dont have to replace him with a simliar player, we can just replace him with a different player and change our style a little bit in the midfield, nothing too drastic.

I can see Rafa buying Javier Martinez who seems pretty good and if all else fails we can stick Benayoun in midfield for more attacking flair.

We may also have the money to buy Negredo.

I was half expecting this to happen. I had a thought that that was why Madrid lowered their bid. It was because they knew Xabi wanted out and wanted to take advantage.

At the end of the day you can not force someone to stay and play well. Force to stay - yes, but that can have a detrimental effect on his performances. And we could lose out. Last season we prob would have accepted £18m for Xabi. This summer he is the same player, but he's just had a better season. As much as we'd all like to hold out for over £30m... I think if he really does want to leave a figure of  £28M would be more realistic to expect - still £10m more then we would have accepted for him last season.

Despite all the cash they've been throwing around, they wont  go above £30m for xabi, and we dont really want someone playing for us who doesn't really want to be here. _ After what happened last summer, I think last season was his "one more season to see if we can win something" - now he feels now is the right time to move, as madrid may not want him next season.

For the purposes of this discussion GYBS, none of us know for absolutely sure whats going to happen so therefore if it makes it easier to stomach, consider what everyone is saying to be speculation. I must say given the acridity and density of the smoke and the 29 fire engines that have just arrived with their sirens blazing I am inclined to think there is a bit of a fire somewhere, but we'll see.

Until we know though, people will specuate and there seems little point to me in saying "where are the quotes from Xabi" each time someone offers an oipinion. FWIW I totally agree with you by the way about Xabi and his attitude. He's been nothing short of a model pro while he's been at Liverpool, and everyone is entitled to want to bring their kids up at Home. I also actually quite like him wanting to make sure Real Sociedad get a bit of wedge out of it. He's been a top player and top man in a red shirt, if he goes I'll wish him well.

Maybe Rafa could sell Alonso and change our formation to 4-1-3-2 and buy a striker with the money we get or stick to the same formation and buy a quality CDM. Whatever happens im sure Rafa will make the right decision...

... I hope he doesn't try and replce Alonso with Cattermole. :(

heimdall wrote:What does it mean to hand in a transfer request, does that mean the club have to sell the player, I've never really understood the legal ramifications of a transfer request apart from that a player looses his share of the transfer fee.?

I don't think it has any legal ramifications Heimdall. It just shows that the player is so determined to leave that he is willing to lose his "loyalty" bonus.

I know a few will admire him for trying to get RS some money out of the deal (if he is ), but he has been a Liverpool player for 5 years now and he shouldn't be robbing us to help another club.

Still even if we take a knock because of the sell on clause, we will still get a lot more for him than we did last season. I just hope Rafa has someone already lined up.
