Wiltord was on a Bosman free transfer following his exit from Arsenal at the end of last season, and has since put pen-to-paper on a contract with French champions Lyon.

However, if Cisse had his way, he would be lining up alongside the French international at Anfield this summer – something he dearly wanted to happen.

"I tried to push through this transfer," admitted Cisse. "I walked into the manager's office and told him to sign Sylvain. I gave him his mobile and they talked on the phone.

"But a deal could not be found and I am disappointed - I felt that I had not done enough towards it. Wiltord is like a big brother to me and he could have helped me settle in.”
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011

Wiltord was at his peak just before he left Bordeaux and could not start regularly for Arsenal in the striker position due to the better perfornamces by the others. Eventually, he was reduced to playing on the flanks and he did play well enough in the two seasons before the last as he is quick and quite skillful. I think he is past his best now.

tempting if it had been a free transfer and considering we are bit bare in the striker cupboard these days for a short term fix

Liverpool didn't try.......
Cisse merely said it would have been helpful to him for someone of Wiltord's experience to help him adjust to the English game.Perhaps if Houllier had stayed, then Wiltord may have become a target for him,but that's purely speculation and we will never know.
Never has Rafa Benitez claimed he wanted the man,so the thread is leading nowhere!!!!
