LIVERPOOL vs UDINESE 10/04 19:05 GMT

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby maypaxvobiscum » Tue Oct 02, 2012 4:25 pm

Liverpool and Udinese face off for the first time in their history at Anfield, with the home team looking to carry on their from after a sublime 5-2 victory over the weekend. Jonjo Shelvey is expected to play in this game as he's not suspended. Borini should recover by Thursday so he should be fully fit. Otherwise, the only injuries worth noting is that of Kelly and Lucas. Not sure on the status of Enrique.

Udinese has only won 1 out of 6 games so far this season but they aren't to be underestimated. In Di Natale, they have a very smart player who despite his age, would cause our defense problems. He came off the bench to get the last minute equalizer against Anzhi in their Europa clash which ended in a 1-1 draw. It's important that we win this home game. He also scored in their 2-1 win against Milan. While it's noted that both teams have never played each other, a familiar face returns in the shape of Daniele Padelli. I believe he is their first choice keeper.

What would your team be? A midfield of Sahin, Shelvey and Allen? Reckon Pacheco might start? Yesil or Borini? Or perhaps Joe Cole might make a surprise return seeing that he played and scored in the under-21 game recently.

I think it would be best if we again rest our first team (premier league) players and let the kids and reserves handle this one. But I would put a few of our regular starters in the line-up and few on the bench just in case. This would be my line-up for the game:

                        Jones

Johnson       Carra    Coates      Enrique/Robinson

              Henderson    Sahin

                       Shelvey

     Downing     Borini      Assaidi

Bench:
Gulasci
Wisdom
Allen
Gerrard
Suso
Pacheco
Yesil

This will be a tougher challenge than YBB. That said, the league is a priority so second string out for this please Bren. The added bonus of that is that after a cack result in the PL, he can sub the entire team, same tactics apply, no disruption....

Errrrrrr, I'll get me cost ;)

I could only imagine the uproar if we ran out onto the Anfield pitch wearing purple. Red all the way.

It’s risky putting out a mish mash team against quality opposition like Udinese so we’ll have to have balance in the side but still keep plenty in reserve for Stoke on Sunday. Hope to see something like this:

                               Jones

Johnson     Carragher     Coates     Robinson

                       Hendo     Allen
                             Shelvey

         Downing                        Assaidi
                              Borini

Subs: Yesil, Suso, Pacheco, Sahin, Wisdom, Skrtel, Gulacsi

I wouldnt risk Allen and Johnson especially as Wisdom looks as good as he does.

                           Jones
Wisdom   Carragher   Coates   Robbo

             Henderson    Shelvey
                           Suso

    Downing                                Assaidi
                         Borini

Play the kids and misfits. The Stoke game is the important match, not this wafer cup business.

Besides, our group is hardly filled with difficult teams and there's no reason why we shouldn't qualify, even if we lose to Udinese home and away.

Udinese and Anzhi are good sides and I would much rather win the Europa League than the FA or League cup. We can still negotiate our way through the group stages by rotating the squad but will lose matches if we go over the top and fill the team with kids and players playing out of position.

Daniel Pacheco ‏@dani37pacheco
Good night all. Not involved tomorrow. As always, keep working.

Pacheco put in a decent performance against WBA so I’m a bit surprised he isn’t on the bench. Would be strange if Joe Coles walks straight into the squad. Has done nothing to deserve it.
