Cole unlucky there.. couldn't handle the pressure.

Well we got the result we needed.  It wasn't pretty, but it was a win and we are in the final 16.

you could argue that sparta were hard done by. if we lost i would have totally said that they deserved to go through, the way they were playing taking the game to us and all that. both games were boring as hell but sparta's efforts are to be applauded.

on a side note, ngog is sh.it.

Job done I guess...

Cole played well, that was good to see. Kuyt was better than some recent games. The defence looked OK. Wilson had a stronger game than last week. So plenty of positives, even if it was a poor performance by the team.

I just hope Agger and Kelly are alright.

Happy days! How many chances did ngog have?? Ffs can't see him lasting long with us to be honest. Great effort from the lads though, cole has given me a bit of faith that he can turn things round. I know ive slagged him off but you had to tip byour hat to him tonight. Kuyt may have scored but shud get praise for the fact he never gives up. Love him

My take on the game,

We looked pretty average, no attacking intent (Ngog was shocking!). We were ok in the first half, picked it up in the 2nd.

For me Meireles was my MOTM, he was top quality and I don't think he misplaced a pass today. He basically dictated our tempo and our momentum, unlucky not to get a goal too.

Joe Cole did ok I thought, he looks a bit rusty and not fit lets hope he gets some games under his belt and stays fit.

I don't know why KD took Martin Kelly off (was he injured?) I thought he was our best player in the first half bombing down the right and defending ever so well. As for Danny Wilson, I'm sorry but he is not a full back, he does not go forward enough or has the intelligence to play in that position. His passing was awful at times and he reminded me of Carragher that he was hoofing the ball too much. I think center back is his right position

YAY we are into the round of 16 :buttrock

Was carrying a niggle mate plus being on a yellow i think kd was tryin to protect for the very reason of him being so pivotal in our recent upturn

Well I was watching on a horribly pixelated stream with Romanian commentary...and still, I could tell how awful Ngog was. I can say, almost with certainty, that Sterling would have played a better game than Ngog did. Sure, Repka would have broken his legs once or twice, but at least he would have had a shot or two on target. Yeesh.

Lovely goal from Kuyt by the way. Kind of vindicates his last two sloppy performances.
