Alexis Mac Allister could return for Liverpool on New Year's Day following a six-match absence because of a badly cut knee.

The Reds remain without Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic.

Newcastle are likely to have nine players unavailable, though the injury to Jamaal Lascelles is not serious.

Joelinton made his comeback from a hamstring issue as a substitute on Boxing Day

Newcastle have been fairly poor recently, I'm expecting them to sit deep and try to gain a point.

Will be good to see Mac back. And hopefully higher up the field, with Endo doing a decent job as our first choice defensive midfielder.

Newcastle have been poor of late. I'm going for a 2-0 to the mighty reds, which will put us 3 points clear at the top of the table

Ibrahima Konate returns to the defence, while Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are back in midfield.

Elsewhere, Luis Diaz is restored in attack and Alexis Mac Allister is named among the substitutes following injury.

Not for the first time...won't be the last. This boy can be very frustrating with some of the basic stuff

Newcastle are here for the taking. If we get 1 then the food gates will open and we'll end up smashing then.

But our set pieces are awful. Do we practice penalties and corners in training?
