Last game before the break against what has become a decent side under Emery. Quite capable of causing an upset to any of the big teams on their day.
Our main concern for this is the defence with Konate injured and Virg suspended so more than likely it could be Matip and Gomez. No bother seeing either tbh as both are experienced but usually it takes Joe a few games to get up to speed. Thiago still out but we should persist with what we are doing in blooding the new lads.
I'd go with
Ali
Trent Matip Joe Robbo
Endo
Szob Mac
Mo Jota Diaz
We have some really good options up front and the players to play a few different set ups. It would be tough for Nunez not to start after last week. To early for Grav maybe but could get a few mins towards the end. Getting that result last week would have boosted confidence and in front of a home crowd we should be value for a win.
Yup they so seem to be decently organised under Unai. Since their battering against Newcastle they've got themselves back in a decent stride, scoring and getting positive resutls, albeit against weak opposition.
Hoping defensively we stay strong, this could be edgy but we should snap 3 points. If we get into our flow and finish our chances, potentially could slaughter these lot.
Either a 2-0 win or a 5-1 mauling. BTW I hope Nunez starts.
Matip and Gomez both did well last week and hopefully would have shaken off any pre-season rust with their first appearances.
Gravy isn't registered yet so won't play. Same midfielder that started last week and Jones back on the bench. Klopp said Thiago is likely to be back after the international break.
What's great is we have 5 really good forwards and you can make an argument for all of them to start, not because of the inadequacy of one of the others, but because of the qualities of the one you're arguing for. Whatever forward line you choose it feels harsh on the 2 left on the bench.
Emery is an excellent manager who has done a great job turning things round at Villa. I'd make them one of the favourite to win the Europa Conference League. Diaby looks a good signing so we'll need to watch out for him.
I am not sure this is the best game for Nunes as Aston Villa will likely play defensively and that doesn’t help his game. I’d have Gakpo or Jota up front as to break them down quick interplay may be needed, Nunes doesn’t play so well with his back to goal. I hope we don’t play such a high line as Matip is too slow to make up the ground if a ball goes over the top and they certainly will be looking for that.
