Crystal Palace vs Liverpool, 20:00 on Monday 20th Aug

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Palace were very good for the first 30 minutes or so- forcing us out wide and back. Their thin pitch means we were going backwards as often as forward. We started pushing through the middle- mostly with Keita and Mane, which got Firmino a little more involved.

Mo is looking a bit tired. You may be able to say the same about Firmino, so maybe we see Shaqiri and Sturridge in for those 2. We aren't playing poorly, Palace are just playing relatively well, sticking to their plan. It's easy to see them pulling a goal out of nowhere like Townsend hitting the crossbar, or from a set piece. I suspect we're going to need more than 1 to win this. They'll have a new plan coming out at half, so we'll need to make sure and capitalize early to put them down.

What a mopey and whingey side this Palace is.

They have been throwing themselves to the ground at almost every opportunity but have not been shy to lay a hard tackle on our lads.

Clear cut penalty, Sakho holding his shirt, kicked out twice at Salah and was nowhere near the ball.

Mo is very much playing in the centre where Palace are defending deep, hence not much chance for him to work his magic...but when the ball go thru to him, Palace panics

Salah and Firmino a bit quiet tonight, maybe it's Palace's defending but I'd sub on Shaqiri and Sturridge second half on around 65 mins, see if they can unlock Palace's defence.

Salah made most of Sakho nipping his heels and referee bought it.

Plenty of nice touches and football but little end product, hopefully build on the advantage now.

Oliver has had to call advantage at least once for every one of our front six for getting tackled or kicked after they play the ball. It's clearly part of their game plan, and Oliver hasn't done anything about it. Apparently we need to do some more rolling to get the bookings..
For such big guys, Benteke sure goes to ground easy, and Tomkins had a clear cut dive trying to win a throw that was so embarrassing he jumped up before the ref had a chance to book him.

And credit to Palace's fans, they're certainly doing their part. They've got Oliver questioning a few calls and making a few others. Every touch is worthy of a red card, and every time we go down it's a dive. Booing Salah like it was a clear dive- these things are getting in Oliver's head. Clear example there with Mane- won the ball, had us in a great scoring opportunity, but the crowds scream for a foul because their player just fell over for no reason won them the call.

Great save by Becker. That's what 60m buys you.

Alisson's distribution is impeccable all night...for once we have an assured safe pair of hands in goal
