The thought of Robbo and Endo filling in for central defence is a not something to look forward to.

I can only say that I hope Edwards knows who he wants to buy and that we're waiting for the right moment as with VVD.
I trust these guys even though from the outside it's frustrating.

Who we really need to replace ultimately is Virgil. He’s 6’4”, fast, strong and good on the ball and those players are not common and I’m not sure Guehi is that player. He looks decent but he’s small and will never get to the level that VVD is. I think Guehi would be a squad player but not what you build your defense around.

That's true, but other CBs will need to be replaced sooner than him. Quansah has been sold and not been replaced, Konate will leave next year IMO so another one that will need replacing. Virgil will be here for at least the next two years so we'll cross that bridge when we get there I guess. Guehi would be a replacement for Quansah/Konate rather than Virgil.

Anyway, Bob Paisley has said that it doesn't matter if we win the Charity Shield or not, as long as we play in it next year. I guess we can all agree with that.

Why Slot felt Salah should play 97 mins is beyond me. He was poor today. Should have been subbed for Chiesa early 2nd half.

Not sure what was happening with Salah . He seemed almost anonymous in the game BUT to be fair if you look at game stats he was hardly brought into play by his team mates with the majority of our attacking movement in the final third being fed down the centre and left side.

I noticed that. It didn’t look like he had a bad game but rather the team has moved on from him. It was also interesting to see Liverpool post Trent as the normal way we operated was Allison to Konate,he would pass to Trent and then he would set up the play, often to Salah. Wirtz seem to demand the ball with his play and dictate things. If Salah was smart he would learn how to play with Wirtz as he could potentially get many opportunities if he made the right runs. Wirtz looks a very cleaver player.

I think we are so much weaker defensively without Gravenberch and maybe we need a proper replacement for him. I believe we won the league because of him last year and luckily he never got injured although he was over played and faded mid season but then improved after that international break.

Overall I think we bought some proper players and once they gel we will be a real force and the team to beat.

Hey Kazza, you say

Seriously mate ? You're suggesting Mo should adjust his game to suit Wirtz :lookaround
How about Wirtz appreciates the world class player he has to his right and makes use of that privilege.  :kungfu:

Fair enough but it’s a young man’s game and Mo is 33. Adapt or die.

The days of Trent feeding him are clearly over and Wirtz is a clever player doing it in a different way. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Mo to adapt to the new dynamics of the team.

Wirtz intelligence reminds me of Alcantara. Soo effortless at times, such a smart player. Understanding between him and the rest should flourish.
