Arsenal v LIVERPOOL 8th January 2026 20:00

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Reg » Thu Jan 08, 2026 1:48 pm

With the frustration of the last few weeks, if LFC have any intention of coming in the top 3 we need to win this game. Arsenal are currently 14 points ahead on equal games, City 9 ahead having played a game more. The implications of handing Arsenal 3 points and City a clear 9 points ahead are ominous.

Transfer market news suggests we won't reinforce this window so we'll have to put up with our inconsistent full backs, centre backs, midfield, attack and manager until the end of the season. Otherwise everything seems ok...  As we're not good enough to win the Champions League (quarterfinals maybe?) we have to ensure a top 4 league position.

Fortunately other sides are dropping points, City, Chelsea, United, Villa etc.. if we can drop fewer we'll stay in contention.

We need a big performance, we need 3 points, we need a statement performance.

Cross your fingers but I'll take a draw.

Gotta be honest here . I'm in two minds about even watching the game tonight .
Sick and f*cking tired of Slott. I no longer have any faith in the man or his tactics.
Hopefully, maybe tonight,he'll make me reconsider my opinion, but i doubt it.

Arsenal will be thinking the title is theirs to lose now after recent results. They have the opportunity to put considerable distance between them and City if they beat us, they'll be highly motivated to get the win and will want to get payback for losing at Anfield. They're back in great form again and confidence is high with them while for us it's the opposite. They also have the home advantage where they haven't lost a single league game and only one draw this season.

Can't see us winning here tbh, and a draw would be a decent result.

Same here mate, been like that for a while but can't help it we love the club so still end up watching.

For Arsenal this will be like the "cushion" win they require. Creating a bigger gap from them and City. Imo I think they'll be too motivated to drop points. They'll be fighting for the 3 points. As for us lol, prolly same stuff really.

I'd absolutely love it though if we get the win, double over slabhead and makes their battle with City more interesting.

Having looked at both team lineups forgive me but I think we are really up against it. Amazing to think that we spent between £400 and £500 million during the summer and the team looks bang average. I fully appreciate that we’ve been very unlucky with injuries and the loss of both Isak and Ekitike makes an incredible task even harder. Salah might not be at his best so far this season but my God we need him for this one. I hate to be so negative but with Slot’s tactics it’s difficult to the other thing else.
I’m pretty sure that my prayer mats going to  be worn out at the end of this one !!

For once I’m hoping the ref is on City’s payroll.

Can't bring myself to watch it. I only had to look at our bench to realise how bad we are. No idea what the arsenal bench looks like but I suspect most would probably walk into any team in the PL.

We can’t even get out of our half.

Only a matter of time until they score.

0 shots on target. Zero threat.

It’s amazing that we’re still level.

This must be what it’s like to support Everton.

Zero outlet anywhere for us. We've set up to get a draw, its about as embarrassing as it gets.

I thought that was a pen on Frimpong by the way.. that close up angle definitely showed contact.

Embarrassing as it gets is slightly over the feckin top mate. With a bit of luck Bradley’s brilliant effort goes in and we get the penalty that you wanted and it’s 2-0 !!

i thought it was a solid enough first half performance myself, we look better than we did away at City put it that way, we've definately improved defensively
