Put his arm around a couple, talk nicely to a couple more, sign a left sided midfielder, a decent striker and centre half cover and pick from a core thirteen and he'll probably win the fecking league. Rafa has us on the brink, all he has to do is to realise that what worked for Valencia won't work for Liverpool and he can write himself into the history books. Great men are strong and can take pressure, even greater men admit they are wrong sometimes.

Excellently put Mick  :)

As far as Arsenal are concerned, I read somehwere that five out of their next seven games are Away from home. Clearly they are going to have their work cut out to continue as they have been, and it is far more likely that they will drop a few points, hopefully starting on Sunday.

When they too start to drop points, then the spotlight will turn on them. It's all very well playing great when you are spanking teams 7-0, but will they be able to grind it out when the wheels have come off? My guess is that they have been quite shrewd in that they had the second easiest start to the campaign (behind us unfortunately) and they have racked up the points on the board and in so doing have built themselves a little insurance.

Chelsea will continue now to win (it's worth remembering that they have visited both Anfield and Old Trafford in thsi opening spell) while for Man Utd, they are in the middle of one fo those runs where you look at their next game (is it Middlesboro at Home on Saturday) and you can only see one result, it's just a question of how many.

The challenge for us of course is firstly to try and land a body blow on Arsenal on Sunday. Man Utd proved against a much better Arsenal team than this one a couple of years back that it is possible to derail Wengers men by inflicting a defeat, and we've got to hope we can do that. At the least, we must avoid defeat if we possibly can. A loss, with Man Utd and Chelsea both winning would be a real body blow.

Bamaga/Ciggy

Not arguing LEeds happened, but I have just given you the examples of two succesful stories from the same ownership/stadium situation, Arsenal and Manchester United and yet its till doom and gloom and the Leeds story we are going on about.

It's a very fair question Leon and I must confess you've got me. The ins and outs of what he did at Valencia are unbeknowns to me, I've merely taken what has been repeated on here so many times it's almost accepted as gospel these days.

This what I understand he did, mainly from Sabre but others have alluded to his success as well.

He won the league title in Spain, two years out of three with Valencia breaking the monopoly of Madrid and Barcelona. By all accounts an amazing achievement. He also won the Uefa Cup with Valencia, beating Marseilles comfortably in the final (Marseilles were a decent team, they put us out on the way). He achieved his success in Spain while rotating the team to a similar extent to which he has rotated it at Liverpool (although there has never been any hard facts to back this up, I am led to believe it is the case).

They played Liverpool a few times during that period, and always looked like an excellent team. They had Aimar who is and was a wonderful player, a bloke in midfield called Barraga or something similar, and a bloke at the back who despite being about 38 was a fecking top player as well. From memory, they were a really top team.

I think (although as it's totally from memory you'll have to forgive me if its total b0ll0cks) that Rafa took over quite a good squad, and put the finishing touches to it.

As for whether he can do it at Liverpool? Not by changing the team as much as he has since his period began, no. I've said on many occasions that in my opinion no team will ever win the English Premier League while deploying mass rotation of personel, tactics, formation and individual player positions, and I stand by that.

Rafa has proved himself extremely shrewd in building a top squad of players with relatively little money, and if he can find a settled group of players, then of course we cna win the title. The question for me is not whether Rafa is capable of doing that (because he is), it's whether he is willing.

On the subject of the changing face of football, the BBC is reporting on their suite about the bald West Ham bloke talking about switching a Premier League game to the USA to boost profile. Total b0ll0cks obviously, but then some other fecker comes out and says well if the two owners agreed to it... It'll never happen of course, but you couldn't get a better illustration that these money men which are coming into the game (not necessarily our two obviously) are often clueless about the conventions of the game.
