WIGAN VS LIVERPOOL - 28-01-09

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dundalk » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:22 am

So after are fun week we had with the neighbours its Wigan next on Wednesday night. Steve Bruces sides have been a bit of a pain in the arse to Liverpool in recent years and this game should prove no different. Wigan are a decent team in the Premier League this season and currently lie in 7th place pushing for a place in Europe.

We just about beat them in the game at Anfield earlier this season with a late goal from Kuyt with Zaki scoring twice for them. The good news is they are without Wilson Palacios who has moved on to Spurs and Heskey who has gone to Villa, but Mido is in and could make his debut in this match. They go into this match having lost their last 2 matchs 1-0 against United and City.

We have a full squad to chose from and it will be interesting to see if Robbie makes the squad, with Man United away to West Brom the night before the pressure could really be on us to get a result in this one

I know this is a real dodgy one this and if united do win the day before the pressure will really be on and I would rather win this one than the derby replay

Tough one to predict. I could see us probably winning. We are fairly good on our away travels which puts our home results to shame. I could see mannure beating westbrom so we will be under alot of pressure indeed. The thing is will we handle it. For me our next two premiership games are vital. If we say draw against wigan and lose to chelsea i would assume we have cracked under the pressure and have handed the title to mannure.
This is a must win match, no excuses. I have a hunch torres will score and we will win 2-1.. Really hope so.. Fecking its starting to get a little depressing here now especially after the 2 draws with the stinking bitters.

Will be interesting to see if keane makes the squad. If not then most likely its all over for the irish fella.

We need to stick 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1, whichever you want to call it, Torres up front on his own or Keane if Torres is not available. I think the team has suffered a bit from switching formations and Kuyt is not playing well up front and I reckon that affects his form as well as that of the team. I'd bring in Aurelio and Riera for Dossena and Babel, otherwise same XI if possible. Keane on the bench, whether he was a bad buy, mistake or simply misused, we lack striking options and leaving out a fit striker is not a good move by Rafa.

Must win, can't see a manc youth team losing to the buggies or even drawing so we need to win or face being 2-3 points behind with them having a game in hand.

Couldnt agree with you more.I wish Insua was available though as he looks a better option at LB.

PS. Agger should replace Skrtel though.

4-5-1 with Keane up front imo.  I don't think we should risk starting Torres again so soon keep playing it a little safe with him is the best thing to do.  Especially with Chelsea on Sunday.  I don't see Agger playing until his contract is fixed I don't understand why but he certainly can't still be hurt?

Anything apart from a 4-4-2. We clearly don't have the wingers to do that. Plus, we are slow as sh!t when going forward.
