This is an absolutely massive match for us. A heavy defeat (and don't laugh, it is very possible) and the clamour for something to happen at the club will become deafening. A defeat would have the tabloids running all sorts of stories about the crisis within Anfield. Even a draw would be painted as a disaster and I wouldn't necessarily disagree. It's a game we need to win.

So what do you do. First you accept the fact that we are playing absolutely terrible and that our confidence is shot to pieces. You accept we are in crisis mode and you fall back on your best players, the ones you can hang your hat on. No squad rotation for this one, it's a cup final.

You look at West Ham and know that Reo-coker is going to work his nuts off in midfield. Have a look at this kid, those of us who like a box to box midfielder rate this lad. Had we have had a couple like him last night we would have won. You know that Harewood and probably Zamora will be strong and direct. Harewood is better than many give him credit for and his pace, power and mobility will cause us problems I'm sure. You know they won't come and shut up shop, that's not Pardews way. They will go for it and we'd better be up for it or we will definately get beat. You pick your best team, this is mine based on current form.

is right, mick. talk about a pressure game! just about every team in the premiership is going to be dying to play us now whether its at anfield or not thinking there's points for the taking. west ham are no pushover and have a great mixture of experience, youth and enthusiasm. i'd be imagining sheringham will start against us and whatever you think about him he's a b.loody clever player and can do us damage.

i'd go along with the team you suggest but put pongo in for sissoko on the right. momo had a bit of a stinker against fulham and pongo is raring to go, he's also much better at going past a man as far as i'm concerned. we have to go out with an attacking line up and play at a fast pace. an early goal would be an absolute godsend.

And your right drummerphil, even though it is west ham we are certainly not guarenteed 3 points. Our 2 victories in the leauge this year were against 2 teams with 10 men and goals from free kicks

I do think we will win (I am not being optamistic either, when ever they talk about Liverpool losing we seem to play our best) but I think it will be a 1-0 and our problems will still be same. I really think there is some bad blood in the team because they are not playing for each other and it is really showing. Just like winning is contageous, so is losing and no passion. I think it just needs a spark but it does not seem to be happening. Let's hope we beat the hammers 7-0 and it all turns good.

Pressure is needed imo. The players have been in ''pedestrian'' mode thus far and they need to step it up a couple of gears.

This team is not perfect but we all know what they're capable of,we've seen it in the Champions League and hell we've even seen it in the league last year. For instance, we played Arsenal off the park at home, with only Mellor up front. Formation not working is not an execuse or a reason. It's simply down to the mentality of the players.

They can perform, but it's all in their heads. A good mentality is a major part of football.

well said mickey only difference i would see is maybe garcia for crouch or even pongolle to give them a real go coz they have fast centre backs and maybe some1 like crouch can get some glory agaisnt them he can really bully them. I have a feeling that the lads will finally put some form of performance in on saturday 'cos no matter what the 'sack raffa' muppets are saying on here i think watching him on sky after the palace game it was plain to see that he wasn't happy with the players and i reckon after the interview was done he went back in that dressing room and tore every one of his players' a new a.rse-h0le for not just last nights display but for the way they have been playing recently.

On saturday i'd like to see a team a little along the lines of the following:-

Garcia maybe a bit of a gamble at the moment as he looks very low on confidence but he is so unpredictable that i think it's worth giving him a go 'cos he is more likely to make an impact than either Crouch or Morientes.

Whatever happens though on saturday in terms of the team selection anyone that is going to the match you need to be vocal and nail your colours to the mast and really get behind the lads for 90 minutes and not be like some of the negative knobs on here who seem to only be interested in talking about liverpool when they can have a good moan!!!!

A.B there is a huge contrast between the epl and the c/l which i dont think needs highlighted..
Benitez as a manager is vastly more suited to the more  tactical and patient c/l encounter when i'd go as far to say he's genius as was proven last season.

In contrast all this raffa is god shi.te is making me ill....So  far he has failed to grasp the passion of our league or the fact that being Liverpool is not enough to beat so called inferior sides.
To be liverpool and play like liverpool we need to think like liverpool from the top down and back up again......not like some new tried and tested failsafe plan that worked in spain.

Absolutely must win this game, no question.

trying to pick a team that will succeed against west ham's tactics, just put out our strongest side and turn them over.  No Djimi 'the fu.cking liability' Traore, no Luis 'so out of form it's not true' Garcia and no Morientes for this one.

Sissoko has to play central, Gerrard has to play wide because there's no one else versatile enough to play there and surprisingly Kewell has actually looked one of our better players recently.  Crouch and Cisse have barely played together, give them a chance.

I'm not going to over-analyze this one.  Screw formations, screw tactics, the only thing that's going to win this one for us is a bit of fight and passion, something that hasn't been shown nearly enough recently and something that the team OWE us right now.
