Probably the best defender we ever had, between him and Hanson. Truly a Rolls Royce defender and they don’t come around too often. We will certainly miss him when he goes or retires.

We'd be in deep sh1t if he leaves this summer.

Still no news on the contracts with Mo, VVD and Trent. I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps 2 out of the 3 have agreed a new deal - but the club won't say anything for fear of the third player looking bad and being under the spotlight and derailing our season.

Read some rumors this might be the case. Think Robbie Fowler said something similar. I hope it's real and not just wishful thinking on our part. If we lose both Salah and Virgil we'll probably struggle for top 4 never mind challenge for titles.

Has signed a new 2 year deal, according the BBC sport.

As suspected, Mo and VVD stay. Trent goes.

Terrific news, obviously he's not 26 any more but as this season proved he can still do a very good job.

Great with a 2 year deal. Hopefully the clubs uses this time to find a replacement

Both Virg and Mo need to be better managed.

Expecting both to play 40+ games a season isn’t realistic. Hopefully we use them for the matches that matter and don’t burn them out by march (as we have done these past 2 seasons)

I think Slot must be in market to get an attacker. Salah will be off to Afcon in Jan. He can't play Salah like he has this season, he really needs to rotate him more.

Plenty of reliable sources say we're likely to sell Darwin so we'll definitely be in for a forward. If we get decent money for Darwin, it will be a good opportunity to finally find Mo's long term replacement, not necessarily at his position, any forward position will do as long as he chips in a good amount of goals (a CF would be ideal).

We will likely need to find Virgil's replacement as well. Sources say we're looking to sign that lad Huijsen from Bournemouth.

Good on Virg, that is how a captain is meant to deal with sh1t, get lads together, uplift, work on issues.

For me, VVD is on a serious decline. I wasn't in favour of his new deal and to be honest he must be laughing all the way to the bank. He's slower, he's clumsier, he's less vocal, he's argumentative, and he makes others around him nervous.

I think him and Salah are both on the decline. Its not often you see 34 year olds still playing at the highest level, and for good reason. Vidic had retired at 32, Rio at the same age was at QPR, Terry was retired also. We've never had a defender so good and dominant so we've never even looked at replacing him. I think if we'd signed Guehi and Leoni hadn't got injured we could have slowly found his long term replacement.

All this aside I dont think VVD is the biggest concern, its the coaching and tactics thats killing the defence. We play into the opponents hands everytime we set up.

Id like Slot to try a 5-2-2-1..
Having 3 at the back would give licence for both Kerkez and Bradley to be aggressive going forward without having to worry so much on getting back.
