Gerrard30391 wrote:"I can't believe we have lost this game," said Benitez. "After playing well in the first half we started the second half with four clear chances. We hit the bar and Kuyt and Alonso had great chances that we didn't take.

"Always it's important to create chances but you have to score from them. We were going forward, controlling the game and were dominant.

"I am really disappointed but it was really bad luck because everybody could see we were better than them.

"We were talking on the bench saying we have to score the second goal to finish the match off. I made some changes and thought the pace of Babel could make a difference, but to concede the two goals is something that is difficult to explain.

"As a team we were really good but we need to take our chances. That makes the difference in a game like this.

"Everybody was really disappointed in the dressing room because we know we had the game in our hands, but sometimes in football you need luck. It was a game we easily could have won 4-0."

On a positive note the Reds boss revealed that Fernando Torres could be back in his squad for Tuesday's Champions League clash against his former club Atletico Madrid.

"Hopefully he will be ready. If he cannot start the game then he will be on the bench if everything is okay," he said.

"It's good we have another important game on Tuesday and the reaction of the players has to be to play well and win the game. We just have to keep going and keep playing the same way."

Have to say i don't think we weren't so much the better team as Rafa thinks.

We were the better team - Spuds were total and utter :censored:. Not sure if you saw Redknapp on the sidelines throughout the match and the total frustration on his face prior to Carra's goal.

Spuds were woeful. We may not have been playing at our best, but were by far the better team prior to the own goal.

Babel is a joke.  We need to sell him before he is worth nothing.  He has no bottle, no work rate and seems to me that he thinks he is way better than he actually is.  Someone on the coaching staff really needs to put a boot up his :censored:.  He is not a striker and never will be unless he takes a long look at Torres and actually tries to learn something.  Torres is great because he works his as off all game.  If he gets hit he stands up gets :censored: off and usually scores a goal or two.  If Babel gets hit, as he did against Pompey, he disappears.  He goes into a little shell and looks for a corner of the pitch to hide in.  Rafa put Carra on him all practice and tell him to kick the :censored: out of him until he mans up and realized that as a striker with flair you are going to get hammered in this league.  If he doesn't like it let him go to Spain where they call fouls like it is basketball.

i have to laugh at the way babel gets blamed for this result, if i remeber correctly gerrard missed 2 chances, alonso had a free header from 1 yard out that he :censored: himself for and carra put the ball in his own net

As for the game, we f*cking battered them in the first and most of the second half, how on earth we missed those chances I don't know.

But then again, it proved so many times that our defence is not good enough!

However, its just a game, we will be back to winning ways next week.

so stop :censored: moaning.

I am gutted we lost as we should never of lost tonight but am more worried about Keane.  If your not scoring but playing very well then I can accept it but Keane aint scoring and his form isnt that great either.  What has he added to the side which we never had before?

He looks to me like someone who is so desperate to impress that he no longer does the things off the cuff like he did at spurs.  At Spurs he would score goals and try things which u didnt see coming.

Hmmmmm.

Funny result this.

Should have won (obv.) - the only thing that we didn't have today was luck. Hit the bar and post and on another day, both would have went in and we would have been 3-0 up with probably more goals before the end.

But.

The true reflection of this result will come in the next few days against Madrid and West Brom. I want the players to be angry - I want them to want to evoke utter retribution on the very next sides they play. Seek revenge, impose humiliation and generally make a c*nt of a team and show this performance to be ultimately what it is - a blip in an otherwise productive season so far. F*ck humility - going back for as long as I can remember, the best sides have looked at defeat as something that doesn't happen to them, something that is reviled and forbid in their ranks. Liverpool in recent years have too often been embarassed to win, seen to be the 'bad guy' that Man U have often been seen to be. B0llocks to it, give me the bad guy image any day as long as we win!

Quite the opposite to the Chelsea result, this scoreline will send a message to the players as opposed to the opposition, questioning how far they believe they can go in the title race this year. The answer to this question will be answered by the end of next week - either emphatically with an assured win over Athletico and a whitewash over West Brom, or with a whimper and we struggle against the two, maybe scrape a draw and a win.

As for Tottenham, send in the kids next week, see if they can do better in front of goal  :p

I'm still very gutted about this game, we should have won, had over 4 clear cut chances, but didn't score them.

Hi newbie here. But experienced LFc fan.

It always hurts the first defeat. Should have put them away.

Not bad, but it's early and plenty more twists and turns to come no doubt.

Only problem i had, is we squander so many chances, when the scum and the chelskis are banging in 4's and 5's with ease. we dont look like we are gonna beat anyone 4-0! seem to make hard work of it. you can only rely on good fortune, and stevie g / torres ,for so long. he is not "Roy of the rovers!"

I see it like this...."You don't win em all, and you don't lose em all (unless you are Everton), but you just keep on fighting!!!" all the way to the finish line.

If we do ourselves justice, the results will come!

Whatever! all of you. Don't fall in love with this Loss, don't hide it, don't think about it too much. take it on the chin. Forget about it and move on!

just everyone keep yourselves together and dont panic. SO far a good start, normally we are 10 points behing by now lol! and always being strong finishers, we won't be far away.

I personally would like to see robinho at anfield lol.

A match should have been won comfortably only for Benitez to apply his old negative tactics once again, bad, aimless, and useless substitutions,

 Ive only just got back an not even gonna read the thread if this is the type of comment thats in there . Its a joke lad  We hit the :censored: woodwork three times an you call that negative tactics

Dirk Kuyt best player on the pitch by a mile imo an not just cause he scored but because he was :censored: brilliant .

This game was always gonna be dodgy since the moment Harry became there boss .

But we were stil the better side an yes we should of finished them off but it wasnt to be today . An own goal and a poor piece of defending by Dossena, who should of tryed at least to get a block in after Pepe made a brilliant save. He still looks a bit fat to me.

We played some lovely football today nice crisp pass an move which i was made up to see. Im gutted yeh of couse i am that we lost but its not over yet as i bet you loads on here are saying.
We are still joint top an we just have to pick ourselves up again now an show that this was just a blip.

Roll on next game.

By the way ive left him in the pub round the corner an he can :censored: right off the smarmy get. Can you imagine the :censored: cheek of it jumping all over me an trying to give me a kiss when they scored yeh right . Just one word outta him later an hell end up like Trevor Jordach.
