Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

When I was a kid I wanted to be Ian Callaghan, he was then and still is my favourite Liverpool Player. Others that need to be added to the Anfield Hall of Fame

Jan Molby
Steve Nicol
Alan Kennedy
Big Bamber and Little Bamber Steve Hieghway and Brian Hall
My old man still swears Billy Liddell was the greatest player to wear red
Geez could go on and on so many memorable players have displayed there skills at Anfield.

It is often defenders.  They don't get much recognition because they don't often score goals or get assists.  What they try to do is not mess up and it's hard to be called great when you are just trying to not mess up.  When you do mess up, your crucified for it.

Arbeloa instantly popped to my mind.  Class player, really helped us out in one of the best seasons we have had in a while, sold him to Madrid for like 2 million pounds which was insanely stupid and picked up a worse right back for 9 times what we got.  Arbeloa starts for Madrid now and still does really well.

Also I think of Steve Finnan right before him.  He was always really solid for us and I missed his presence after Arbeloa was sold as well.

Also Riise.  I was p!ssed at Riise for scoring that own goal at Anfield against chelski that ended up knocking us out of the champions league, and I was chanting for him to get the boot, but I full-heartedly regret it now.  We have no good left back and he does a lot defensively and offensively for Roma.  Great player who got a lot of stick for some untimely own goals, but I definitely feel he didn't get the respect he deserved.

I would also venture to say Benayoun.  I thought he was a real class player for us up until he left for chelski.  He did a lot for us when our team was failing last year and rafa never really gave him enough credit.  Serves him right that he wanted leave us.

Jimmy Case, John Wark, Jan Molby, Aldo, Steve Nicol.. to name but a few,,, I already out Ray Houghton in.. But all these names are plentiful in our history, you could go on all day.

And really, they are all legends anyway! :D

Danny Murphy is a name I seldom here, while not world class, he was a great servant to the club and continues to be an advocate for LFC in his time at Fulham.

Hamann and Hyypia were immense for us going into the 21st century, wish we had some decent attackers during the Houllier era, might have won the league.

Smicer, have a look at his goals on youtube, last minute winning volleys against chelsea, have a look at the impact he had in that second half in istandbul, the more I think about his time here the more I wish he was still with us.

Momo sissoko, his passing was woeful at times but loved the way he would relish going into tackles 100% its a shame he wasn't given much of a chance after his eye injury which was the beginning of the end of his career coupled with the signing of mascherano. Hindsight I know but would have been great to have kept him. Although lucas has improved I would take momo over him for his energy and ball winning prowess
